I didn't see many other people post about MIT's formatting when you preview your application, so I thought I'd post. At least on my application, the formatting looks terrible. The font sizes are determined by the amount of text you enter, so shorter answers appear way larger than longer answers.

Is this true for everyone? Can MIT actually bare to view applications like this? Sorry in advance if this has already been discussed.

However, if you enter too much, the program does cut you off at some point.
MIT adcoms has also explicitly stated in their blogs (too lazy to find link) that they’re not particular fans of squinting to read small font, which is what happens if your essay goes too much over the word limit.

Adcoms can read applications anyway they choose. If squinting is an issue, they can read it on a tablet and enlarge the text.

Sometimes the words shrink a lot because the applicant went way over the word limit. If that is what is happening in your case, I suggest that you leave enough time to make sure that your essay is validated. Don’t trust how your essay looks in the preview before validating.

Thanks for the feedback. I have nothing going over the word limit… It’s mostly just a few activity titles that are long and at the limit. They end up in something like size 8 font, so I guess this is motivation to make them more concise.
