Print publications to read?

<p>My PI sent me some papers to read via email. Each paper has ~12 pages. Is it best to print them and then read them in paper form, or should I read them on the computer? How do you research veterans read research papers?</p>

<p>i prefer printing papers that i am unfamiliar with, that way I can underline sentences that confuse me. if I am just referencing something, then computer version is easier. But definitely, if you are just starting to read full blown research papers, and especially if you are an a pretty specialized field, I would recommend printing it out and begin the long process of learning the field. If you make a genuine effort, you should end up going to certain seminal papers in the field (either highly regarded reviews or high impact research articles).</p>
