I got a free printer with my macbook pro and will use it in my dorm room but was wondering how prevalent are printers in college dorms?

Are they really necessary? Should I bring extra print cartridges or do you think I wont be using the printer that much? (I'll be taking english, spanish, econ, poli sci, and stats next year)

They’re pretty common, or at least in my school. Imagine writing a paper late at night, then having to walk all the way to the library to print it out, or doing the same thing right before it’s due. Not fun.

For accessories, bring an ink refill kit. They generally cost around $20 and can give you up to three refills; much cheaper than buying ink cartridges. And you will burn through a lot of ink + paper, especially if your school is going digital and posting notes and homework online.

You’ll definitely need a printer, but I’ve never had a good experience buying cartridge refills that aren’t the brand of my printer. The branded cartridges are expensive, but they work a lot better; just try to have a little discipline with what you print.

Definitely a good idea. There has been many a late night where I need to print something out, or even the ability to print something right before class is worth it alone.
