Do you recommend that I bring a printer to my dorm at Jester? What other items do you guys think would be necessary and what items do you think I shouldn't bring? Thank you/

Many dorms have computer labs where you can print with your bevo bucks. It is convenient to have a printer in the room but it is not necessary.

Here is a list of things to bring and NOT to bring:

[Division of Housing and Food Service - What to Bring](<a href=“UHD Homepage | University Housing and Dining”>UHD Homepage | University Housing and Dining)

That depends on what kind of studying habits you have. Many people have trouble reading or doing homework off of the computer and prefer to print it out. Costs aside, if its just a matter of bringing a printer or not, I would bring it. I use a printer multiple times a week for various needs and assignments and, even in a dorm, I would say that the advantages of having a printer in my room far outweigh the disadvantages (desk space, bringing it in your car, etc. but again not considering costs).

However, you can definitely manage without one. I’ve never used dorm printers but most majors offer some form of free printing each semester. For example, for every biology course you take, you get 150 pages of free printing in the biology computer lab. Similarly, for every chemistry course you are enrolled in, you get 100 pages of free printing in the chemistry computer lab.

How much did you spend buying stuff for your dorm?

I’d recommend it. If you do get one, don’t bother spending more for wireless since they don’t work in dorms.

It depends on your study habits as well as what your major is. If you are the type of person who has to print everything out or if your major requires that you write a lot of essays obviously bring a printer. I personally hardly ever find use for one and if I do I just use one of the many printers on campus (i.e. at the computer lab in jester or at pcl right across from jester). There are a lot of places where it’s completely free anyway. There really isn’t much desk space in jester anyway so also take that into consideration.

I would say get a printer, but don’t bother with one that can’t scan. You can get a pretty decent all-in-one printer/scanner/copier these days for like $50-$60. You’ll have it for years to come (you’ll understand the importance of this more when you don’t live on campus anymore) and it will save you the hassle of messing with Bevo Bucks once they run out or the library printer cards (you’ll understand just how much of a hassle this is when you have a paper due in 30 minutes and you still haven’t printed it yet - and yes, this will happen at some point). The only downside is that your roommate will probably want to use it once in a while if they don’t have their own. Just tell them to buy you some ink or a ream of paper and call it even.
