OK, this is going to be a stupid question that I’m sure one of the dudes at Best Buy could answer for me, but I figured I’d ask those in the dorms first. The printer we’d like to get D is the same Canon wireless printer that we have. As I’m running down my mental set up checklist, I realized that in order to make the printer wireless, we had to plug it into our network router. Since the dorms are wireless, I can’t figure out what we would plug the printer into. Should we just get her a wired printer or am I just missing something obvious?
TIA!

Would it be possible to plug the printer into the Ethernet port in her room? It’s the same network as the wireless internet. When I used my [wired] printer, I would just plug it into the wall and into my computer when I needed to print something and unplug it when I was done.

Aha! I knew someone would give me the answer There is an ethernet port in each bedroom of the suites? I think that would take care of the situation.
Thanks SeaTide!

Hmm, I have a Canon wireless printer in my office and it connects to the router wirelessly. My computer, which connects to the same router/network wirelessly, then “sees” the printer on the office network and can access it. Wouldn’t the same be possible in the dorms? (i.e. the wireless printer joins the wireless network in the same fashion as the laptop). I’m not a gear head, so maybe I’m missing something here.

At any rate, we ordered the same printer that I use in my office for my son to use at Bama. It works great and will be delivered to Bama at the Paty Delivery Center for no shipping charge. Total cost: $85.27 at Amazon.

There is an Ethernet port in each bedroom plus two in the living room.

Malanai - I was looking at that particular model for S last night. It’s always good to hear someone who’s using it with good results. Is it easy for him to get ink, I guess they can just go online and order.

I’m printing a 2-sided document automatically and wirelessly on the Canon as we “speak.” No problems with the machine thus far.

Ink is always easy to order online (another reason for a PO Box) and it may be readily available at local retail outlets in Tuscaloosa, as well.
