Printer

Do I need a personal printer? And if so,Is a better to purchase a laser or inkjet?

I purchased a Canon all-in-one inkjet for DD - art&design major - the copy and scan function probably will see more use than the printer. I would go with inkjet if color is needed.

Get a wireless laser printer. You will save money in the long run, and it will last you beyond college. When buying new toners, dont be lazy (dont buy the first one you see at the store) look around for the best prices online with time to spare when you see that the ink will be getting low soon, and sometimes you can get refills which are quite a bit cheaper.

This is a good color laser printer.

I dont know how much you will need color prints, but if a monochrome printer satisfies your needs, get one of those instead because their toners are cheaper.

I highly recommend this monochrome printer; brother is a great printer brand. The genuine toner for this particular model only costs $45 and theoretically this toner gives you about 2600 prints, but i’d say its closer to 2000. The toner thats included is not a full toner, so it will run out faster than any of the replacements you buy after.

As an alternative to what these people are saying, remember that you might not need a printer. For example, my school gives me $30 in printing credits every year (about 300 pages of B&W, fewer if color), and I’ve been using that instead of spending money on a printer that’ll just take up space in my room. I’ve got printing stations all over campus.

I would wait until you get to school and evaluate the situation before deciding whether to buy a printer or not. It’s easy enough to get one later on if it becomes necessary, and you don’t want to spend money on something you don’t need.

I don’t think you should get a printer at all. It is easy enough to share them. Then you have less clutter in your room and less waste. If you don’t want to use just the college printers, maybe share with friends and contribute to ink costs.
