hey! i was just wondering if you all think it would be a good idea to bring my printer to school. i'd stock up on ink and paper, i think, so supplies shouldn't be an issue. although, i'm unsure if tulane gives us any "credits" to print using their printers in the library and other places... is it just an unnecessary waste of dorm room space?

This question was raised at Orientation. The answer was to tell your child, each time they wanted to print something, to walk 2 blocks then come back and print it. Will they be OK with this? If they are OK with this, then there is no need to bring your own printer. If, however, they do not like the idea of having to wait to print something or having to walk 2 blocks to do it, then bring your own printer. From past experience (with an older child in College), I will definitely be buying my son his own printer for his room.

All undergrads get $25 in printing credit per semester to spend in the library and various other buildings. Students in the Freeman school also get 250 free pages per semester to print from the business school’s computer labs.

I would say having a printer is very practical. Given that most people have laptops with WiFi, the printing credit will still be useful when they are working remotely. But while in their room, being able to print homework or personal stuff like maps or airline boarding passes or whatever is useful.

thanks so much, everyone! i’m also wondering: how’s the wifi in the dorms, specifically monroe?

When we were there for orientation, they specifically said all the dorms would have WiFi. As to the quality of the signal, I cannot say.

The wireless is pretty good.
