Printers

do roommates usually share 1 printer per room, or is it better for each person to bring their own?

In my experience, most people bring their own, but sometimes people share, assuming it’s okay with the person who’s bringing the printer.

Bring your own. Too much hassle.

bring your own

protip: don’t wait until 3 am to print something out in case your printer jams and malfunctions. not that i would know or anything >.>

Definitely get your own. It will turn into “well you used X pages, so you owe me $ for that” then the ink will run out.

Also, look into free printing at your library or computer labs. My school has a 500 sheet limit per semester. Not that I would rely entirely on the library, because sometimes you end up waiting for an open computer, but it could save you some money in paper & ink costs if it is free!

I’m not even bring a printer since it will cost me money not worth spending. I’ll just use flash drives to print off the school computers.

Sometimes school offer free printing and has computer labs across campus where you can print. My school gives me 100 sheets/week in free printing. But I also bring my own printer for printing out papers and such.

First year, I shared a printer with my roommate. She didn’t mind in the least, since she shared my mini-fridge. I bought some cartridges to pay her back. I think it’s quite unnecessary to bring two printers, since they can be bulky.

I’m not bringing a printer since I get 500 pages/semester free. If I need one after a bit, I’ll get one, but to start it’s not worth it.

I’m so glad to read some of these posts, my school has that free printing offer as well, so my parents are telling me to not bring a printer. However everyone I seem to have talked to till now were bringing a printer with them so I was worried about not having one till I read SingDanceRunLife, Soli and demeter’s post.

Each person should bring two just in case u run out of ink/

Relying on free printers means you are going to have to finish things early on or rush in the morning to get an assignment printed because computer labs and libraries close at a certain time.

My internet was acting up during finals week last year and it was a huge hassle walking to the closest library to print something from the internet (printing here isnt free).

Printers don’t have to be expensive. Target sells some okay ones for around 20 bucks for just printing papers and whatnot.

Computer labs are open 24/7 at my school to the best of my knowledge.

Having your own printer can be extremely handy. Having to run to the computer lab every time you have to print could grow very annoying very fast. If you only have to print a few times it’s likely never going to be a big deal, but if you have some class where you have to print a lot you might get annoyed having to stop in the computer lab all the time.

We have labs in every dorm that are open 24/7.

We have to pay for printing, 10 cents per page at my school. Even though it is pretty convenient because the labs are open 24/7 in every dorm, it adds up enormously…I probably spent about $150 on printing pages alone last year. This year I’m bringing my own printer+ink. But in case your printer dies it’s always good to have a back-up plan or a friend’s printer to use. This is the 2nd year my roommate and I are rooming together and we get along great, so I’d consider it perfectly fine for us to share a printer. However if you don’t know your roommate, I wouldn’t bother to share printers unless you have a previous agreement.
