Printing at the Library?

We're all pretty sure our apartment complex got hit by lightning. It was ridiculous. Although from my window I can see the Corner and I'm pretty sure either the Corner or hospital got hit by lightning. Goo.

Finally it's stopped raining! There are way too many people asking for stuff...vote, a capella, rugby, etc.

A Cafeteria without trays is like apple pie without ice cream. Surely they could have found other, better ways to economize.

I'm wondering if eliminating trays will make student dining somewhat slower. If so, that could make the back-up at the busiest meal times worse, which wouldn't be very desirable.

DB:
If you haven’t figured it out by now, you’re supposed to put the soup in your pockets. Welcome to fine dining at the University; hope you’re enjoying your first week at UVa!

I can't comment on the lines of years past, but at lunch O'Hill is extremely busy. Trays would help to prevent people from fumbling with plates and going back and forth into the lines.

haha HHD, i'll remember that. Some guy today just took one of the trays on the conveyor belt and used that. I'm pretty sure that it hasn't been washed.

And the lines were crazy long. When I went to get dumplings today at O'Hill for dinner, I was in line for 20 minutes. but dayumn, those dumplings were good.

I figure I'm paying about $9.50 for a meal so I get $9.50 worth haha. I always ask for a take out container and fill that AND then get my regular food to eat in O'Hill haha.

You're supposed to swipe twice if you get a take out container - on your honor etc. Also you're only supposed to put 2 entrees in there (again on your honor). I think the new containers are smaller than the non-eco-friendly styrofoam ones they used to have...

I also make sure to get $10 worth of food when I eat - drink refills, salad, whatever... Otherwise why would you pay all of that money for a meal plan (I mean, yeah, compulsory...).

I hope that wasn't my son that took the tray off the conveyor belt and used it before it was washed.....

I noticed a definite change in his eating habits when he began watching "Man versus Wild" on the Discovery Channel this summer.

woops...i guess i won't be doing that anymore. No one told me about that rule. And two entrees? Pshaw, I put one (so I'm under!), then a sandwich of nutella (mmmmm.....nutella), some french fries (maybe), then I grab some cookies, and some cucumbers and ranch dressing plus the fresh fruit of the day. And I walk out eating some frozen custard. It takes me about a day to consume all of that haha. And yes, it all fits in the box and doesn't run together to taste like mushie mush. :)

Hahaha HHD, if that was him, then I guess vegetable dumplings are part of his diet. (did I mention those dumplings were good?)

I've been sure to get my $10 out of meals. You were lucky db on the dumplings, I waited in line for 10 mins, only to find out that they just ran out. I did get some decent egg rolls though.

Are you really supposed to swipe twice with a box (which don't work worth a damn for insulation in the cold rain)? I guess it doesn't matter for me on unlimited, but still.

They are making money on me. So far I've had one pc of bannana bread, one entree and two salads. Probably wouldn't have had that ohill wasn't on the way back from the gym.

You're supposed to swipe twice if you eat there and also take a box. A lot of people don't do it though. If you have unlimited it definitely doesn't matter. They don't really post the rules in prominent places and/or refer to them ever. They're usually on posters by the doors if you ever go at a less-busy time and want to read them.

Yeah, did anyone go for unlimited their first semester? I'm planning to switch next semester to something like Plus 10, but for now I'm having fun going into dining halls just to get iced coffee. Are there any take out cups for drinks?

(It's funny how we discuss dining in the printing thread and clothes in the dining thread ... hahaha)

I'm on the unlimited and like it. For me 3 squares a day is needed, and I don't mind the O'Hill food.

Yes, there are take out cups for drinks and they have the most amazing lids!

I have the Unlimited meal plan, too. I'm not a breakfast skipper, and I know I'd hate having to keep track of how many meals I have left in a week.

Yeah, but the IRC provides so much opportunities for food ... and everyone is cooking in the kitchens something all the time. Anyone ever tried one of those semester fixed-meal plans (100, 50, etc.)? How did that go?

i don't think you can have one of those as a first year. but i have the 100 meals and i think it will work out well.

You can only have the 50/100/150 as an upperclassman. I had one last year in Lambeth (50) and it worked out well because I sometimes ate lunch, sometimes dinner at the dining halls, and used the plus dollars (a lot!!). This year I did the same thing, despite being over on the Corner, because I have easily 2 lunches a week to blow on-grounds, and it works out to 3-4 a week. I probably won't spend all of the plus dollars, but they carry over and I can always go over to Ohill and load up on food crap (which, I just realized is a good idea...duurr)

Yeah I think I will have the plus-10 next semester, and a 150 or a 100 next semester. I just find that since each meal tends to be a stuffing buffet, and since I find that each meal lasts me half a day ... I don't really need 3 dining hall meals a day.

I mean this semester I've been wanting to avoid reaching into my ramen noodle stash (when the dining halls aren't available) because I've spent so much on the dining plan already that I want to minimise additional expenses on top of that as much as possible.
