Does anyone know how many kids have gotten in off the waitlist in recent years? The CDS on the web site looks like they don't put kids on a WL (USC Institutional Assessment and Compliance) but I know they do.

The class of 2015 had no students move off of the waitlist.

I don’t know about other years, though.

My son was wait-listed for the class of 2016. He was supposed to hear the final answer by mid-May but he got the news he was admitted by mid-April. He’s about to finish a highly successful freshman year.

Thanks for the responses–I know two great kids who would love to get off the waitlist for next fall. Fingers crossed for both of them!

Congrats real good to know .Would I be prying if I asked what day in April ? was it the teens or twenties…still hoping …thanx

I am beginning to think this whole wait list process is a bunch of crap. any time you call the schools they give you a royal runaround including USC. The admissions office are very vague and ambiguous about this issue.no record of numbers? gimme a break. It seems the answer may be that today students apply to many more schools than they did in the past. Where are these families getting the money to pay for all these application fees which can run into the $$$ thousands and the schools are cleaning up. It is just another money making scheme and it ****es me off. If you owed the school as little as a freakin dollar you will be notified. But if you ask what % of applicants are called from the waiting list they don’t have a clue. I’m beginning to think its a conspiracy lol

Sorry, I don’t remember exactly when it was. Maybe in the early 20s.

I didn’t get any information re: the wait list out of them either, but I think there are reasons; for instance, they don’t want to get your hopes up or have anyone come back to them saying that based on a conversation, they expected they would be offered admission. I would think that admission for waitlisted applicants depends in part on the acceptance or decline of others higher up on the list. They don’t have a crystal ball so can’t assume they know how many from the waitlist will be admitted.

As for the application fees lining the coffers of the schools - that is the result of students going crazy with submitting many, many applications, not because of anything the schools did. They are just the happy beneficiary of the checks written. Comparing money owed to how much wait list information is given out isn’t logical. It’s two different issues that have no bearing on each other. I can tell how frustrated you are to not be given any information that would let you know how much of a chance you might have on being admitted. As I said in a prior post, last year it could have taken until mid-May for us to learn my son’s “fate.” I think the key here is patience, as it could take a while for you to get any information.

It isn’t a conspiracy. They simply don’t know the numbers and won’t know them until at least May 1. In addition to a growing class size each year, you’re also fighting with the fact that USC is taking 600 beds offline in the fall by taking the Woman’s Quad offline. Space is at a premium, especially since all first year students must live on campus.

They won’t know until at least May 1 if there are spots available. In 2011, they posted on May 4 about the waiting list being full. https://www.facebook.com/USCAdmissions/posts/10150174817166835 They’ll let you know as soon as they can.

Last year, there were spots available.

It changes from year to year and they can’t tell you what it’s going to be like this year. Everyone could move off the waiting list or no one could move off. More than likely it’ll be somewhere in between those two extremes, but they don’t have a magic crystal ball.

I know it’s frustrating, but they really don’t know the numbers. I wish you luck and I’m crossing my fingers for you. :)
