Objective:

ACT: 34, 34E, 35E/W, 33R, 34M, 34S

Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): probably around 3.95-ish. My school only reports weighted
Weighted GPA (out of 5.0): 4.190
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 1/227
AP (place score in parenthesis): 55544433
IB (place score in parenthesis):
Senior Year Course Load: AP stats, AP lit, APUSH, band, physics (there’s no honors/ap)
Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): some national history day stuff (which is why I love UMD), national merit, ap scholar w/ distinction, state champion in a civics competition, some debate stuff (but not a state/national champ), and a scattering of other things, too

Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): band (section leader three years, principal instrument four yrs) (I’m also in a community band), speech and debate (vp and debate captain), editor in chief of school literary anthology, some tutoring, there’s probably like one more thing but idk right now I don’t want to open my resume
Job/Work Experience: nope
Volunteer/Community service: pretty much a nope – maybe 40 hrs of scattered stuff, I didn’t report anything
Summer Activities: NHD twice, some travelling, a lot of being lazy
Essays: I wrote about the culture of my community (and my own personal enlightenment) and of my passion for gender rights. The first essay is a lot less pretentious than it sounds – it’s more of an “I’M DIVERSE PICK ME I’M VERY SPECIAL NO ONE’S DIVERSE LIKE ME.” (wait…that didn’t sound good either.) My short takes had Washington DC mentioned twice, and law like 3 times.
Teacher Recommendation: idk, probably decent at the worst. I read a little of it and it seems good. (Of course, reading LORs isn’t really my area of expertise)
Counselor Rec: idk, probably high, but general, praise (YAY FOR ONLY SEEING MY COUNSELOR WHEN I NEEDED TO GET CLASSES CHANGED AND HAD TO GET A GRADE CHANGED BECAUSE MY TEACHER REFUSED TO FIX A 4/44 TO A 4/4[I had mathematical proof and everything that my teacher was wrong. It was fun{sarcasm intended}.])
Additional Rec: nope

School Type: mediocre public where 20% go to 4-year colleges
Ethnicity: WHASIAN
Gender: XX
Income Bracket: This can’t possibly matter here, can it?
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): lol hooks

Reflection: Not going to lie, I was expecting this. Now, for the real interesting outcome – what is the scholarship going to be? I’m hoping that it’s good, because UMCP does tug at me a little more than some of the LACs I applied to (DC is my one true love, after all).
Strengths: GPA, ACT, geographic location, I have an interesting story, my awards are not bad
Weaknesses: idk I don’t think my essays were particularly special, ECs are generic
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: because the GPA/ACT calculator people at Parchment told me I had a 99% chance of acceptance. No but really, those two are pretty high, and my essays were definitely not slabs of BS.
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: ugh deferred from Yale, accepted Pitt (I just got the letter yesterday, so waiting for scholarship and honors) and Alabama (NMF, honors, semifinalist for UFE – gotta see how that’ll play out soon).

Now for what I’m waiting for: Vanderbilt (applied Cornelius Vanderbilt), Washington and Lee (applied for Johnson), HYPS, Columbia, Amherst, Bowdoin, Colby, Wellesley, Carleton, Swarthmore
