Priority Applicant Decision Thread

@CTmom610 There does not appear to be a requirement that you have accepted UMD to fill out the housing agreement. The form doesn’t have a way to request specific living areas. You do have to remember to withdraw the application by July 1 if you decide not to go, else pay a fee. There is no housing deposit apparently.

@Doberlady and crowlady - thank you! I will have my daughter look at it this weekend. So you made a housing deposit but not a general UMD deposit?

Ya, my kid forgot and that got him a nice forced triple in Denton. You live and you learn.

@CTmom610 To be clear, we did NOT make a housing deposit for Maryland because we haven’t been asked for one yet. We just completed and submitted the agreement form, presumably to hold a place in the queue should we need it. Other schools appear to do it differently.

didn’t deal with housing at UMD yet Just the other 2

hey! anyone doing community health as their major?

I got Duke, too lol. What schools are even in their database

@jibler wrong thread lol

yeah… I apologize

Hi guys, I got accepted to UMD but to the letter and science instead of engineering. when I called them they said first I need to complete gateway requirements and after a semester they will accept me. Is this true, I mean is it easy to get in after a semester. Also, am I allowed to take the same classes that engineer students take during their 1st semester?

hey guys…just wondering if we get a hard copy of the admissions decision in the mail!

Yes…formal admissions comes in mail

tommybo, congratulations on your acceptance. see the earlier posts about doing an internal transfer into engineering. it’s painless.

lknc223, yep, hard copy probably mailed the same day as the emails were sent. you should have it by monday.

I got the hard copy today. Is attending open house important/ useful?

Yes…they give you different types of information than they do for admissions open house. You are already admitted, so they don’t need to waste time telling you how to be admitted and can focus on the benefits of attending. During this visit you will see different things, learn about more opportunities and get a better sense of the student population to help you answer the question of can you see yourself attending/is this the right fit for you? You can ask more specific questions for your intended major, talk to current students, etc. You should attend admitted students day for all the schools are you seriously considering making the commitment to.

thx @maryversity I will surely attend.

Tommybo 2 semesters of gateway classes and these classes are on the engineering track. You need a 3.0 GPA then you can submit an internal transfer.
Iknc223 you should get a hard copy in the mail by Monday.

Just wondering, can we create a student account in UMD like one in MYUMBC , MyTU, My MC

Just wondering, is the transfer to other LEP programs (namely Business and Government & Politics) as easy/painless as that to engineering? And how “easy” is it? I was placed in Letters & Sciences upon admission.

I know that transfers to Smith School of Business are still competitive (unlike engineering), so you need to exceed the minimum gpa to have a better chance of admission, but no clue about Government & Politics…
