Anyone hear yet?

Still waiting.

It came for me today. I got in. It said scholarship info will come soon...

What are priority applications?

I believe priority applications are new this year at Wooster. Some colleges send them to prospective students who have made contact with the college early. They mail a priority application usually in Sept. and offer to waive the application fee and if you meet the early app deadline they promise an early decision. D visited and interviewed at COW in August and we received one. I guess it benefits the college as they get more applications to read in the fall.

Politicaljunkie,

Congrats to you! Do you think you will attend? We are still waiting. Did it come snail mail?

It did come snail mail. My first choice is Kenyon, but if that doesn't work out Wooster is definitely in the running.

OH MY GOD!

my best friend and i both found out we were accepted today. both our moms called us! ahhhhhh!

Mine came today too!
I'm not sure where I'll end up, but Wooster is definitely a great school!

D is accepted! No mention of merit money. Does anyone know if it comes later or if we are out of luck?

Sorry--no answers here, just more questions. Could some of you who were admitted tell me your stats? My son applied RD and I guess we'll have to wait until early April, but it feels like an awfully long time between now and then. Also, I'm wondering if any of you applied to OWU, Kenyon, and/or Denison too. I see that politicaljunkie is hoping for Kenyon (very smart kids there, I know), but any opinions from any of the rest of you about Wooster vs. the others? FWIW, my son will be playing lacrosse if he goes to one of these four.

ingerp...
im looking to play dIII soccer so i checked out both wooster and owu.

have you visited either?
we checked them both out last spring break and i loved wooster. it has an amazing campus and great facilities. its defiantly on the top of my list. i stupidly didn't submit a priority application as it wasnt one of my top choices at the beginning of my college search (deferred from elon and wisconsin) but im still waiting to hear RD.

as for owu i was really turned off. i met with the soccer coach first and he was basically a huge ass, so my first impression was a bad one. aside from that the campus is pretty boring. everything is centralized and cramped. they do have some new facilities which were appealing but aside from that the campus was very bland. we went into the neighboring town and they seemed annoyed that they had a college next door. i just got a bad vibe from the place.

i would recommend visiting both and getting a sense of each college.

hope this helped!

...sorry and my stats are

3.06 UW
3.42 W

650 650 630 MRV

boyscouts for 6 years
soccer for 4 years

caddy at local golf club

ingerp, i was SO CLOSE to applying to kenyon however i really followed my gut on that decision. i lived at kenyon college for two weeks when i attended the kenyon review young writers' workshop. the campus is breathtaking. the workshops i participated in were absolutely fantastic; the instructions were so insightful and helpful. the experience overall was one i will remember for the rest of my life. however, i decided not to pursue admissions at kenyon due to the location. gambier, ohio consists of approximately 600 residents, surrounded by cornfields. the "village" consists of a bookstore (very nice), middle ground (the coffee shop), an inn, a pub, and a women's clothing store. for having such a small populus, and the college being small itself, it provides a community oriented feel. i went a little stir crazy while at kenyon so that was my main reason. all my friends at young writers' completely fell in love with kenyon and applied ED.

wooster is in a bigger area from what i hear. it is ranked #2 in the nation for their senior capstone experience (princeton is number #1), and has a beautiful campus. they provide much financial aid and incredibly friendly in the admissions process. it has a good reputation in academic circles.

anyway, congrats everyone who got in!

I got in yea!

Thanks much for the responses. We've visited (and applied to) Wooster, OWU, Denison, and Kenyon (plus some others). For some reason my son felt most comfortable on the OWU campus. I'm really not sure why--maybe because it is somewhat integrated with the rest of the town and maybe feels more open? While Kenyon is excellent academically, I think it might be a little "out there" for my son. Denison was lovely but he had a bad experience on an overnight with the lax team, and three of the four people who are first-years there from his high school were already talking about transferring last September. My best synthesis is that OWU might have a little better athletic teams while COW might be better academically. Me--I'm all over COW but we're definitely at the stage right now that I can't bring it up any more. We've scheduled another trip to re-visit OWU and COW at the end of the month but he's hedging on even taking it. I think the boy is travel-weary. Manu--thanks for the stats. They're really similar to my son's. I'd still welcome any more input on the contrast between those four Ohio schools.

Congrats to everyone with early acceptances!
