Priority application... When we do find out?

Has anyone else applied with the priority app? I thought that we would get a decision 4 weeks after everything had been received. I sent all my stuff in 6 weeks ago, and I still haven't heard anything. :(

Have you logged on and checked your status to make sure they received your SAT or ACT scores (unless you chose not to send them) and that they received the official transcript from your high school?

My son also did his a while back but I know for a fact, that his school is just beginning to send transcripts out now.

yup. everything is sent. just waiting!

my son sent all of his materials in by late September, school materials were there by mid-October. Apparently, the 4 weeks are counted from the date of completed application. Son spoke with the admission office on Monday and they told him this.

Same here. My son's high school was a little slow in getting his stuff out, so they didnt get it until mid October. Looks like we all decided to call them at the same time.

This was a great idea. We would not have considered Ursinus if we hadnt gotten this, now the more we look at the college, the more we like it.

My son applied sight-unseen. Did any of you tour the campus? How did it compare to other small school campuses you visited? Of the smaller schools we visited my son liked Muhlenberg the best. Can any of you compare the 2? My son is also applying to Allegheny with a VIP app, also sight-unseen. Have any of you looked at Allegheny?

We will try to visit Ursinus some time in the near future.

the campus is very pretty and quiet. I didn't see many students around though. The dorms weren't very nice, but most of the other facilities were. Everyone who I met on the campus was very nice and welcoming. I felt comfortable there. In terms of academics, it didn't really have the "intellectual energy" that I felt when I went to other schools. I think academically, it is very similar to muhlenberg. Good luck!

My wife is thinking of going to the campus with our son if we get a positive on the priority application. We were impressed with what people are saying. They received a 91 for academics on Princeton Review, and an A on another website for academics as well

My D was accepted yesterday. She's very happy. We did visit the campus during the summer, months before she received the Priority App. We did a tour and my D had an interview with the admissions staff. She's very high on Ursinus but wants to wait until she hears from the other 9 schools she's applied to. She has until May 1st to give Ursinus a deposit.

I am glad you mentioned that. When I visited with my daughter we did not see many students either. She was accepted Oct 30. I really liked the school but I don't think she can see herself there. I think we will visit again.

D did the priority app...interviewed this week and was told at her interview she was accepted. Have not received the official acceptance letter via snail mail yet though!

We had never seen the campus until this week. Freshman dorms were definitely not a selling point, but the rest of the campus was quite nice. Surrounding area suited my D's needs. Seems safe, quiet, quaint...a little shopping and restaurants nearby.

My son just received his letter! His application was complete on 11/13, and he had an interview on 12/3.

Does anyone know when we may hear about scholarships?

My son's acceptance letter arrived today. First acceptance and a low reach for him so he was pleased.

I don't know what the official policy is on scholarships, but I can relate our experience from last year. D1 was accepted in October (priority app), but we didn't hear anything about merit scholarships until March. She was invited to a Saturday "scholarship day". There were about 200 admitted students there, each went to an interview with a professor. About a week later D was sent a letter with a scholarship amount. (We were later told by a coach that the scholarship range was $8,000 - $16,000). D1 has to maintain a 2.8 to keep her award for four years.

Mrsref, I actually researched around and did read that they wait until March with regard to scholarships. So how does your daughter like the school so far?

I also just want to add, for those still waiting to hear, that they don't seem to keep the on-line statuses up-to-date. My son's still says they are waiting for his high school report!

Our daughter applied priority and was accepted just about 4 weeks after the application was complete.

handemom --

Overall, D1 is very happy at Ursinus. Of course there are some things that she doesn’t like (for example her dorm room is in the basement of one of the old dorms), but I think that happens everywhere.

Academically she is very happy. With the small classes, the professors know her name and she feels connected to the community. Her Calc professor invited her to do the Putman competition, and next semester she’ll be doing research with the Chem professor. I'm not sure those opportunities are available for freshman at large schools.

We had a nice chat on our way home yesterday (picked her up after her last final). She does wish that there were more non-party activities offered on Friday/Saturday nights. D1 is not a partier, and watching DVD’s or playing board games with her roommate and a small group of like-minded friends is okay, but it would be nice to have the option of going to a cheap movie or something. She mentioned that she would sometimes get jealous when her friend at Penn State would relate the fun (non-drinking) activities available for the weekend. But, on the other hand, D1 felt lucky to have only 24 students in General Chemistry class rather than the 200+ students that her friends at big schools had. She also likes that the campus is small enough to get from one end to the other in five minutes – nothing is far away.

D1 only spent about half of the weekends on campus. Others she came home and worked at her job (we’re only 45 minutes away) or visited friends at other schools. Now that track season has started she stays on campus, but since she’s much busier now she doesn’t have as much time to be bored on the weekend. I don’t think she’ll come home much next semester – she has meets scheduled almost every weekend.

Full disclosure: D1 is shy. Part of the reason she spends Friday nights with a small group of friends is that she would be uncomfortable attending a party where she doesn’t know many people.

Thanks Mrsrf, that's very helpful. My son is not into the party scene and is on the shy side too.

I sent in my priority application, and on the website it says everything is complete, however it does not say if my status is pending, accepted, deferred, rejected, etc. Some people said that it does say that. I'm wondering, where?

Their online status is not accurate at all. My son received his acceptence letter last week, but as of today, his status still reads that they are waiting for his high school report. I had called a few weeks ago because of this message and they told me his app was complete as of 11/13. So hang in there, and check your mail for a small (small is good) envelope.
