What's the advantage of meeting the priority deadline? What are the disadvantages of not meeting it?

I read somewhere that submitting your application before priority deadline would guarantee a space in whatever major/class you want to take, because space fills up quickly in Harvard (no duh! lol)

Harvard says that submitting your app. after 12/1 would not penalize you in anyway, but I would do it before anyway, just in case ;)

They have caps on the number of people who can do a specific major? D:

Students do not have to declare a major until their sophomore year. A student’s application submission date has no impact on the courses they get to take their freshman year.

As for the priority deadline, if you are able to not jeopardize the quality of the application you are submitting by meeting that date then do so. As admissions states, applications are reviewed in the order they are submitted. If meeting the 12/1 date would cause you to produce an inferior application then just make sure that you meet the 12/31 regular decision deadline. Ultimately, the application is more important than the submission date.

I have done everything except my 3rd SAT-II score, which I’ll take in late Jan. if I turn in everything on hand right now without the 3rd SAT II score, will I be considered to have met the priority deadline? Could anybody give me an advise?

Yes, schymp, you probably will count as meeting the priority deadline, not that it matters much. At this stage they are more concerned with just receiving all you Common App and supplement forms. In terms of reading the applications early, it’s already a bit late if you want to take advantage of that because they sent out an email about two weeks ago saying that:

You won’t be near the top of the pile if you submit now, so I would not rush at all to get in an app; just make sure when you do finally submit it, it’s the best quality you can muster.

Thanks for the input. My app is no where near presentable so it’ll have to be the regular deadline for me.

Does meeting it mean having your stuff postmarked by Dec 1st or having it all filed and ready by Dec 1st?
