GoWorld, according to the article, Alumni are not in the group listed to retain priority, and Regents has it written into the Academic Senate’s guidelines that these students would be given priority enrollment. Unless the same can be said for Alumni scholars, I don’t see how Regents getting priority has any bearing or any positive influence on why Alumni scholars should get it too.

It is also written into the Alumni Scholars contract. The issue is that it is used as a recruiting mechanism for prospective students this year. Telling incoming students that they will be receiving priority enrollment through the first 2 phases of their interviews, and then revoking it right before State Finals I’m sure you will agree does not look good for the school, Academic Senate, or any scholarship organization on campus.</p>

regents is sanctioned by the university of california (does Bakke vs. University of California Regents ring a bell?), its not a bunch of people getting together to make a scholarship.

Actually, the scholarship process for ASC is in many ways equally if not more competitive than that of the Regents Scholarship, which is based more on strict academic standards. ASC recipients go through up to 3 interviews before being awarded money, with the emphasis placed on extracurricular involvement as well as superior academic achievement. No need to be bitter simply because you didn’t make the cut. And next time, I suggest you exercise more respect when speaking about your fellow peers; I’m sure your tone isn’t one RSS would like to lay claim to.</p>
