priority numbers?

hopefully!!
Did you really like it as your first dorm?

I liked it. I thought it was in a pretty bad location for my classes and for food, and that it was a bit overpriced for what it was, but I liked it. The rooms were pretty spacious, and the RAs and housing staff really tried to keep everything fun and enjoyable.

Now that all of the construction right next door to Wildwood is finishing as well, it will really be a very pleasant place to live. Its only real drawback though is that if you enjoy eating, itā€™s a good walk from either of the two cafeterias.

My S had Wildwood as his first choice this year and got in with a housing priority number of mid-1300ā€™s. (I had originally remembered it as low 1200ā€™s.)

He enjoys going to the Figg for lunch, which isnā€™t far, particularly for fried chicken fridays.

The Figg Dining Room is pretty cool. I wish it was open more than it is.

i just paid my housing deposit   :D

what are the consequences of paying admissions dep in march or april? what about if i paid it now? would it make a difference?

It doesnā€™t really matter. You are just confirming that you will be attending FSU by paying it. If you donā€™t pay it until March or April, you donā€™t pay it until March or April. Itā€™s not due until May 1, and really all paying it early does is get it out of the way for you.

Jossie, where do you see your recalculated FSU GPA? And when you fax in the contract, how do you know they got it, you just assume they did?

you call them and ask them. if you fax your info and you see the fax it says ā€œokayā€, then it went through. you can call and double check, but itā€™s not necessary.

Iā€™m really frustrated right nowā€¦ I stayed up until 3:30 AM on the 14th after being accepted into FSU to apply for housing, but the technical difficulties prevented me from that. When it was eventually reopened at 8 AM, I was in school- Iā€™m taking all AP classes and cannot afford to miss even a day of school without having obscene amounts of catch up work to do. By the time I finally got home to apply for housing, it was around 3:30-4:00 and I got stuck with the priority number 1727. Iā€™ve been invited to the honors program and have been wanting to live in Landis (Iā€™ve been hoping to be invited to the honors program so I could live in Landis) but from what Iā€™ve been reading on here, I have no hope with my priority number.
It just doesnā€™t seem fair that I stayed up so late to give myself the best possible chance at the dorm I wanted, only for it to be rescheduled to a time I was in school. I got into this school and the honors program because Iā€™m a good student, and the only way to get a decent priority number would have been to skip school! It really doesnā€™t seem fair.

why didnā€™t you apply around 6 AM? I applied at that time and ended up with 0178.

Nole2016, email housing and ask them the likelihood of you getting Landis with a priority number of 1727. From their past experience, they should be able to give you an idea if you are in the running for Landis. 1727 is not a bad priority number and you should get a decent dorm with that number. Many people with lower priority numbers will choose other schools, will not be in honors, wonā€™t pay their deposit, etc. Housing is very helpful.

Jossie, I tried logging in multiple times from 6 AM till 7 AM before I left for school and the website was still down but had been updated to say that the housing form had been taken down and would be put back up at a later time.

Wallacefl, thanks- Iā€™ll do that. I really hope I have a decent chance because living in Landis was one of the main reasons the honors program is so appealing to me. Gilchrist is my second choice, but I would much rather prefer Landis.

Thereā€™s 630 spots roughly between Landis and Gilchrist. Not all spots in Gilchrist are Honors, but a vast majority are.

1700 would, in my opinion, be likely borderline to get a spot in either Landis or Gilchrist.

Keep in mind that a lot of people will go for dorms like Wildwood or DeGraff, and others will either not pay the deposit on time, not fill out the paperwork on time, or not attend FSU.

One way to look at it is like this: You need no more than approximately 1 in 3 people in line ahead of you to be placed in Landis or Gilchrist, in order for you to be placed in one of those two. For Landis specifically, the number is 1 in 4.28 people.

I would say that, provided Wildwood and DeGraff are as popular with the incoming class as they have seemed in recent years, you have a good shot for Gilchrist, and an okay shot for Landis.

Keep in mind though that a lot of people in line ahead of you wonā€™t be in Honors, or if they are, wonā€™t want to live in the Honors dorm(s).

Understanding that Landis is an honors dorm
and highly regarded, can a regular everyday
freshman be housed in Landis even if they
were not admitted into honors with a low
housing priority under 200 ? Are there any issues
with a non-honors student being housed with
honors students in Landis ?

daviddj: Landis is exclusively honors.

I had to skip school on the morning of the 16th to get my priority number. Luckily ended up getting 573. But yeah, the lag on the website was killer. I stayed up till 3:30 the night of acceptances to try to log in, then I woke up at 5 and continued to log on until school. It never worked until Friday morning for me haha.

Still a decent number. Your work has paid off.

573 is a very good number.

Like I said earlier, my housing number was in the 580s and I got my first choice of Wildwood. You should be good and get your first choice in most cases (the smaller dorms might be a bit less likely).

I was wondering-- I put my housing contract in the mailbox Monday night, so it should be getting there by Friday. However, Iā€™m very worried about it not getting there on time (I have until the 26th), so if I call on Friday and they say they havenā€™t gotten it, Iā€™m planning on faxing it. Is it possible for me to send them a fax over the weekend or on Monday? I know theyā€™re closed on Monday and over the weekend obviously, but I was under the impression that fax machines are still on and working when an office is closed.
Do you guys know if thatā€™s at all possible?

I would call them, and if they say they donā€™t have it, I would fax it as soon as possible. As such, I wouldnā€™t wait to call until like 4pm, when they close shortly after- Iā€™d call in the morning and make sure they had it. If they donā€™t have it, Iā€™d fax it ASAP and then call back later in the day to see if they had it then.

I donā€™t think though that if they are simply backed up they will penalize you. They know the mail can take a few days (especially around the holidays) so I am sure that as long as it is postmarked by the 10th day they wonā€™t kick you out. Donā€™t quote me on that though, because they very well might.
