Priority Review (Early Notification)

I just received my PR decision letter about an hour ago (thankfully I’m accepted!). I’m from the UK by the way, if that helps with any questions. Best of luck to everyone else out there still waiting!

Let us know if anyone’s MyRoc account moves to step five or if anybody gets a merit scholarship! This should be the magic week for most of us waiting! Oh… And the Official Rochester 2017 thread is still floating around somewhere, so post on that if you’d like!

You are from the UK and already got your letter? I am from Rhode Island and still waiting!

UK doesn’t have Presidents Day, we do, no mail in US today!

I think Bdog is aware there’s no mail today. Probably making the point that the UK applicants acceptance pkg was mailed before fri in order for them to have recd. already.

Not necessarily. If the letter managed to get out of the US on Friday or Saturday, then the first stop would the UK (only one plane ride away). One or two days is a perfectly reasonable length of time for mail to arrive. (Continental Europe, on the other hand… well, that can take a while.)

my logic exactly LightningStorm, only takes an 8 hour plane ride to get to the UK…plus we are comparing the UK mail to the USPostal system…it really should not take anymore than two days to get a letter anywhere in the continental US and we all know that is not the case! Of course I have no idea if their system is any more efficient :)

That was my point… even if the letter got out on Friday… I am amazed it made it to the UK today…

btw…good luck to all!!

I hope my letter comes tomorrow! Regardless of decision I just can’t wait much longer

Best wishes to all waiting!

Acceptance recd. in NJ. Noone should fret about it. UR’s yield is approx. 24% They accept thousands more than they enroll. I hope everyone of you waiting gets accepted.

Got in! from westchester county!

Sounds good nelson!

Rebel, it’s not the yield rate folks are concerned about right now. Last year’s acceptance rate was 31% - meaning more were not happy than happy when they received their envelopes. And if the application numbers are higher this year…

Note to anyone who finds a thin envelope in the mailbox: don’t freak out!

I got a tiny, super-thin envelope today and raged instantly because I thought I was rejected. Truth is, the people they’re considering for HEOP are being put on hold until April or so.

So, anyone applying to HEOP and hasn’t gotten a letter yet…you know what to expect.

What is HEOP?

HEOP is a Higher Education Opportunity Program-- some schools have them, some don’t. It’s a selective program for economically disadvantaged students that provides a network of academic and financial support for kids who may not be up to par with traditional academic excellence (perfect GPA, 2400 SAT score), but you get accepted if they find you promising and know you’ll do well if you are provided with the right resources. Just banks on the fact that kids with extremely low income and come from poorer districts do significantly worse on SATs, etc. That’s what it’s about. Rochester only has room for 20 HEOP kids out of 100s of applicants, so it’ll be tough.

HEOP isn’t end-all-be-all nor is it a big component of what adcoms talk about at the table; a lot of HEOP kids could get in without this consideration, however it’s just a component of financial and academic aid for kids who might not be totally up to speed with the generally more advantaged competitive pool. It gives you tutoring, counseling, money to pay for things that family can’t help you with, and sometimes even summer programs to “catch you up” with those who have had better opportunities. HEOP really comes into effect once you’re in.

Accepted in Rhode Island!

Accepted! North carolina

Accepted!! Florida
