Priority/VIP .. Why?

So I've received numerous emails from several colleges (St. John's, Albright, Tulane, etc.) about priority/VIP applications. My question is how do colleges choose who to send this type of application to? Basically why am I getting these emails?

I've read around in other threads concerning priority/VIP applications, however, I have not found the answer to my question. If I missed it, just let me know.

I appreciate any feedback! Thanks! :)

Likely based on PSAT or SAT test scores, like most college mailings.

Oh okay, I thought that it might have been for something else since my SAT score isn't very good.

i think it might be for act and ap scores too....i can tell because i used a different email address for these than i did for the psat/sat, and i've only gotten vip application emails to the email address i used for my act/ap tests.

Cause they want top academic students to apply and go to their school. For many of these schools (except places like Tulane and Rice obviously lol), anyone above 2200 is usually a piece of pure gold, which is why they do that

The fact is that they are courting you -- making you feel special from initial contact. They want to make the best impression as possible.
