I dont quite understand it. Is the priority waiting list like a binding contract? If I sign my name, am i legally bound to attend the school if they accept me off the list? Can i enroll into another school at the same time? The reason is is that i have to some thinking about going so i want to know. one of the two schools i want to go to so i'm not sure. Can anyone answer this question

I believe that you have to attend the school if they accept you off the priority waiting list but I think that you can also enroll in other schools at the same time.

(but i might be wrong)

CMU's priority waitlist is binding. If a spot opens up your are expected to attend. You can still send your deposit into another school just in case you don't get off the list. The priority waitlist is for students who's first choice is that college and want to go there if the spot opens.

Anyone know how many waitlisted applicants have this option?

"Anyone know how many waitlisted applicants have this option?"...i second that question

I think they all do.

They said they want the $500 when they give you a spot. I think you could just say no at that point. But you should know by then where you want to go.

In the questionair, it states that if you chose not to go, and you are on the priority waitlist, that you lose your 500 dollars. Is that all that happens?

yeah... it doesnt seem that it is binding. Theres no way that little sheet they sent to check off priority waitlist and waitlist is a contract. I'm pretty sure you can get out of it. Minors cannot sign a contract without parents, thus i think you can just not go even if u get in.

have any waitlisted people been able to see their financial aid packages or gotten it in the mail?

not me, yet.

we got the letter of aid, were offered priority wait list, and got the call.

I am curious. Does a larger percentage of students get off the priority waitlist for a particular college within CMU? For example I know it is harder to get off the waitlist for CFA, (drama) because they take so few students. But in the other colleges like CIT, MCS, H&SS, etc. what are the percentages for these other colleges? For students that have been accepted to multiple programs within CMU does the spot that the student does not take open up when a student has to chose only one program to attend? Do they wait until after May 1st to let students know that they have been accepted off the waitlist?

500 dollars to which school? CMU? I haven't even paid the deposit yet, how would I lose it? Sorry I've really not been informed of any of this.

Thanks.

I could be wrong about this, but I think you pay the deposit to be on the priority waitlist. That is why you don't get it back if you decide not to go.

I actually called the admissions office awhile back, and asked if the depost was binding (although not with regard to a wait list). I was told that the deposit is NOT binding, but they really "like" you to be sure when you send your money in (paraphrased). It is nonrefundable if you do not enroll.

Really? when I replied for Priority WL, I didn't send in the $500, and that's why I'm confused, because what if I get in and decide not to go, what can they hold against me?

Simplefallout, you are correct...no deposit was required to be put on the Priority waitlist. You do not lose money, in other words, should you not enroll. The deposit is required immediately if you get off the waitlist, however. Your family did not need to send any money yet until you get a "yes" call tomorrow night. Then they send the deposit.

Thanks for the clarification!
