Priority Waitlist Questions

I am on the priority waitlist for SCS, and have asked to be considered from admission to IS and H&SS.I posted this in another thread, but it received no responses. Any input you could give me would be invaluable.

1) Should I revoke my financial aid package? I got 5k in grants and around 3k in subsidized loans. Waitlist admission is not needs-blind (for obvious reasons) so I'm afraid my financial aid package will ruin my chances of getting off of the waitlist.

2) My GPA is a 3.85/4.00 if you exclude freshman grades; 4 B's in Sophomore year and 1 in Senior year. I got a B first semester of AP Comp. Sci (which I took in 10th grade) but got an A 2nd semester and earned A's in my other CS classes. Given my GPA and CS grades, will I be killed by the competition on the SCS or IS waitlists?

My GPA is the weakest part of my application (aside from essays and possibly teacher recs). I have a decent SAT score (2300+), and have taken 10 AP exams (5's on all). I also have a decent number of EC's and awards. I can post more detailed stats upon request. Tell me what you think guys.

Why exclude freshman year grades if I may ask?

CMU doesn’t look at freshman grades.

Why wouldn’t waitlist admission be need-blind? I don’t think it would be need aware, correct me if im wrong.

They say on their website that your financial aid package may affect your admission if you are on the waitlst. Their average financial aid package for last year, as reported by them, was ~35k with ~25k in grants so your amount of 5k in grants pales in comparison I don’t think you have much to worry about there.

Waitlists are not need-blind. That came from a college counselor who got it from an admission rep at CMU.
