Priority Waitlist :s

I don’t think so but I could be wrong.

i got the priority wl today… it took 10 days… idk how that happened, anyway the letter says reply by apr 10th… which is in a few days… i dont know if it’ll arrive on time by mail, so i was wondering if i should fax over, or is it postmarked by apr 10??

oh and im planning to enroll in cmu, so if im accepted,im definitely going to attend, but still, we deposit after they offer admission right?

Hey,

I just called CMU Admissions and asked them question.

I asked them if priority waiting list is binding in the sense that if you do get in, then you HAVE to enroll.

the lady said “yes, that is correct”

so im guessing its binding?

… im gonna go with the regular waiting list if this is the case then…

I think it might be binding in the sense that you have to “enroll” by paying the enrollment deposit. Then, I believe you could probably withdraw from the school.

Remember, though, guys, you can withdraw your name from the priority waitlist up until May 5th at 5 pm eastern.

If you withdraw from priority, can you be on regular waitlist or no?

I was offered the same choice last year - priority waitlist or regular waitlist, and admitted under the priority waitlist.

If you choose the priority waitlist and are accepted you have to pay $600, since the assumption is that you will attend. You do not have to attend the school but you will have to pay the $600 deposit.

The regular waitlist is for those not sure - and is for all intents and purposes useless. Saying you want to be on the regular waitlist is pretty much saying ‘I don’t want to go to CMU, sorry.’

Also, if I remember correctly you can only be on one waitlist.

If you do choose the priority waitlist, try following up with a short paragraph or two about how Carnegie Mellon is the school you absolutely want to go to, how it matches your interests and can help you accomplish your goals. This extra follow-up can help the admissions folks as they review all the priority waitlist applications when they decide to pull people off the waitlist.

My financial aid just showed up online. Not sure if everyone’s did, just letting you all know.

ctks22, thanks for the info. im going for priority waitlist for sure now

I got my letter and it says that I can be put on the priority waitlist for all departments in CIT except ECE (which was what I had applied for). If I choose that, would it be helpful to mention why I would want to attend CMU. Also, if I ask for MCS, should I write about why I would want to go there?

Also, they say that they will notify decisions by May 6th and students must reply by the general May 1st date? This basically means that they will notify before May 1st right?

Nope. Last year too they informed the admits and rejects from the priority waitlist on may 7th

Hey do you think they will admit any students from their priority waitlist because last year they did not!?? I am just nervous and I really love CMU! And about how students do you think there are on the priority waitlist?

That’s not true, nicsagenius.

I got in off the priority waitlist last year. I received an e-mail on May 6 with the subject line “Carnegie Mellon Admission Offer” and some good news inside (if anyone wants the actual text, pm me.)

I think they didn’t admit anyone to CIT on priority wait-list last year. They did for other schools.

I also got placed on the wait-list. But seeing the facts for last year I am a little skeptical.
Not even a single person was admitted from the wait-list…does that mean we even have a shot at this?

this year, i predict that percentage of students who will be admitted from waiting lists will definetely increase due to financial crisis. don’t you agree?

how will the percentage increase?

The widely held theory is that colleges will be unsure about how their yields will work out this way and thus leave more spots in their classes that will ultimately be filled off of the waitlist.

At colleges as high-level as CMU though, no one is sure how this theory will or will not apply.

I said yes to priority wait list for H&SS and MCS. Am I even allowed to do that?
Can you say yes to two priority wait lists?

Hm. So we can only expect to hear back from them ON May 6th itself? Could it possibly be anything between May 1st and May 6th?
