I just checked online and got waitlisted from cit and mcs and rejected from tepper.
I was wondering about the priority option and how many people or % actually get off the priority list.
Is there any way to improve my chance ??

Last year around 70-80% I think were taken off the waitlist if they accepted a spot on it.

argh...
i just checked, got waitlisted for CIT, rejected from SCS

Given that the amount of people applying this year is up 20%, does that mean the amount of people taken off the waitlist goes down?

gaaah, this is frustrating, CMU was my last chance to not go to Rutgers :/

I think they made massive waitlists BECAUSE of the app increase. If it is true that many ppl are applying to more schools; I can see how it makes sense to start waitlisting people rather than rejecting them outright.

I think the waitlist % will go down this year because of the # of people ON the waitlist. However, I still think your chances are good and DEFINITELY send in essays/recs/etc. about your interest in the school and any new info.

70~80 % seems awfully high compared to
Vanderbilt (1000 waitlist offered, 450 Accepted the offer, 45 admitted whihc means 10% acceptance rate)
Why is that?

well, its priority waitlist so less students accept a spot on it, and since the school knwo they will go when taken off, takes more people off that waitlist, contributing to 70&to 80%, i guess the overall waitlist taken off is much lower

What exactly is the priority waitlist? And does CMU have both a waitlist and a separate priority waitlist?

dont quote me on this, but according to what ive read on this forum, there are two waitlist option, one the priority and the other the normal one, the priority waitlist is like a binding agreement in the sense that if you are taken off the waitlist, you ahve to enroll at cmu, much like early decision if you get what i mean. the normal waitlist is just the usual ones, no obligations whatsoever. so i guess prioirty waitlist are given more consideration.

is there any statistical data online about this priority or anywhere in CMU web page ??

Is the priority waitlist something I have to sign up for, or is it something determined by CMU admissions?

They tell you that you are considered for it and then you decide whether to take the priority or to not.

oh so its not offered to everyone that got waitlisted ?

No. It is offered to the minority on the waitlist.

Has anyone been offered priority waitlist already this year?

i got offered. im def gonna take a shot at it. i heard the percentages are pretty decent. much higher than reg decision

hhj did you online decision say "priority waitlist" ? or just "waitlist" ??

hmm not sure what the online decision says, but I think the decision letter will ask whether you want to be put on it or not.

hhjl87!
In my letter, it just says wait list. No priority word is used. But they want me to sign and send wait list reply form wherein I have to confirm that I want to be waitlisted in ECE. Nothin that says that I have to join if offered. In your letter, they have used "priority", is it?

ok to answer all your questions, yes my letter said PRIORITY waitlist
my online app, i didnt check but i sent in the letter already saying i want to try it and they aknowledged the letter. most schools seem to have a priority waitlist but they just dont tell the normal waitlist ppl about it. i got waitlisted at rice but supposedly they have a priority waitlist too

Yep, I just got my letter, and I have the Priority Waitlist option. The site only said waitlist.
