I'm sorry I did not entirely understand your post.

Once again I will say that yes you can double major in ANYTHING (except talent-based stuff like musical theatre/drama).

Accepted Already! I will study this matter further and ask you my doubt? I have been unable to open the full course catalog till now in my computer as file size was very big. I have been reading sections under it and as I told you, the end of column1 in page 103 under "Double major/Double degree in CIT" in the end cuts in midsentence "the" and in the second column, a new para starts.
Just now, I made one more attempt to open the original full catalog and it opened. The same page is numbered 91 here and appears full. I will read it carefully and ask you this question tomorrw to you if still unclear.

Okay, I'll be here :)

i get in tepper from pwl!!! They called me this afternoon

Accepted Already - just noticed this thread… ds was accepted into MCS but waitlisted in CIT. He has opted to send in his “regular” waitlist request as well as send in his deposit to MCS. He also called Admissions and they said that because he was already accepted into his “alternate” choice (which was made on the application), he was not eligible for the Priority Waitlist -so that info. was correct. My question to you: if he does not get off the waitlist for CIT, how difficult would it be to do an internal transfer after starting as a Physics major in MCS? He may also opt to double major or major minor in MechE?? When we visitied recently, the advisors said it was not guaranteed (I guess that’s the “script”) but several students all knew other students who were able to transfer internally once admiited to CMU. Thanks for your thoughts.

Internal transfers are possible.

The way to do so is to take all required classes – especially weeder classes in the freshman year, do well in the classes and then apply to transfer (that’s not to admissions – it’s an internal transfer…less complicated).

If you look at the first year of courses required/recommended for CIT, MCS, SCS-- they are all very closely related…so even changing majors or adding an unanticipated double major in the sophomore year is really easy. This entire process is made even more easy if you have AP credits coming in from a science/math class…but it can work just fine if you don’t.

If you cannot open the catalog b/c it’s big-- just go to each department and review the degree requirements online for each major-- easy to find on CMU home page in the search box or just go to the department and you’ll see a “program guide”.

Essentially, math, computing and science classes are the same for MCS, SCS, and CIT majors first year. Switches are easy to achieve if you are doing solid work-- not so easy if you earn Cs.

Well said! Thanks!

Hey guys, I just sent CMU an email asking if I could switch WL to CIT (I got PWL –> Regular WL at MCS).

So does anyone know the chances of getting on the regular WL? I am planning on writing a letter of interest and any help would be nice =)))) (like as in advice).

Also, “if” I am lucky enough to be accepted on my waitlist, is it possible to do a transfer from MCS to CIT and than double major in Tepper?

Would that be a killer courseload? Would I have to take an extra year of college? Could summer school cover it?

Thanks and congrats to those accepted
