I am just wondering if anyone of you check your privacy options on URSA. There are 3 categories: Public Info Release Option, External Affaris Privacy Option, and FERPA Restriction Option. How did you guys handle this. Any harm if we choose to release info or is it better off to not release info.

it depends... i believe i have most of my info restricted. you don't have to have it restricted but, it you release your info, anyone can view your home address, phone number and etc on the UCLA directory... it just depends on how comfortable you are about that...

Thanks for the reply ckings86. I am most concerned with the 2 categories below. Did you opt out from these 2 categories?

EXTERNAL AFFAIRS PRIVACY OPTION

In addition to the public information described above, your Social Security number, sex, marital status, and the name, address, and telephone number of your parents or next of kin are made available to the UCLA External Affairs Department for use in alumni, development, and public relations activities.

To restrict the release of this information, you must complete a "Request for External Affairs Information Restriction" form at 1113 Murphy Hall.

FERPA RESTRICTION OPTION

The FERPA option restricts the release of ALL public information (including most recent previous educational institution attended, participation in officially recognized activities including intercollegiate athletics, and the name, weight, and height of participants on intercollegiate athletic teams) and prevents University staff from making any statement implying that you are a student. If an inquiry is received about a student who selected this privacy option, University staff will state that "we have no information available on this person." In addition, a student with a FERPA restriction will not appear in the UCLA Online Campus Directory or the Commencement publications.

This is the strictest of all privacy restrictions and overrides all of the above privacy options. It can only be placed or removed in person at 1113 Murphy Hall.

I actually didn't opt out of them. I just figured that it was too much work to go in person to change the settings. Lol... I know - lazy... but, it happens...
