Private College Cost Exceeds $30,000

"The average cost of a four-year private college jumped to $30,367 this school year, the first time the average has broken the $30,000 mark.

As they have for the past 11 years, average college costs rose faster than inflation, according the latest report from the College Board, a non-profit association of 4,500 schools, colleges and universities....

With room and board, four-year public colleges average $12,796 for in-state residents."

CNN Story: Average college cost breaks $30,000

A Huge waste of Money.

since we are heading down the road of can we prevent any expenses that we may have already incurred ;)

Im glad we decided to get a labrador- when my youngest was 4- instead of having another baby- sure saves on those SAT prep classes :D

Stupid remark from an obviously uneducated individual

i saw on the news that lke thirty years ago the cost of attending college was 600$

"A Huge waste of Money."

Ehh, I think it is worth every penny...especially at a LAC.

Even at the really low quality private universities and LACs?

It's not particularly the price that scares me. The one thing that has me worried is the number of people borrowing and in debt. Even in the richest class, borrowing has nearly doubled for college in the last decade.

this is so bad

I see costs of $50k+ for some colleges. If you count parents' visits, extras, it easily can be that high at the highest cost schools which are also the ones where kids are standing in line holding their breaths to get in, and the most of their parents more than willing to beg, borrow and work the money to pay for the cost.

Probably not news to anyone who frequents this site but just the same, I believe this article can put it all into prospective:http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/CollegeAndFamily/SavingForCollege/IsYourDegreeWorth1million.aspx.
