for those cc'ers that are planning to pursue a career in private equity, why private equity??? what attracted you to the field? and what talents do you possess that will lend to your future success?

You do know that the chances of getting into PE out of undergrad are extremely low, right?

Obviously the greatest part about being in PE is that you're on the buyside instead of the sell side. The pay is generally better and depending on the firm you'll have a better lifestyle hours wise than compared with banking.

As for talents, I think most CCers wont have the talents needed for PE, at least right now anyway. Usually when people are hired into PE it's after they've been an analyst and gained good modeling experience.

It's actually pretty crazy to even THINK this far ahead.

base pay actually sucks. You need to look into that, some are actually paid only $35k a year. Private equity can be quite similar to venture capatalists in that they invest in private corporations, many install their own chairs and they make money on that return. Each PE will give employees a percentage of the revenue that is recieve from their investment which is what makes up for the marginal salary. Not all pay this way, but many are turning this direction especially as they have to pay these private sector company presidents that they lure away from traded companies. It may take years some times to make money, sometimes it doesnt, obviously it can depend how well your company does and that is why big name experienced CEOs are being brought in to run these companies. Also they want out of the lime light and quarterly reports
