Everyone talks about investment banking and such.. but what about Private Equity. It seems many times hours are somewhat shorter, and pay can be greater. How is it in terms of difficulty compared to IB to land a job in PE?

I think people go into PE or hedge funds after 3 or 4 years of Ibanking.

mundia tho.

yea PE is down the road from ibanking

Hours are definitely not shorter. They're comparable to IB, or even longer at some shops. Also, it is very difficult to get into PE right out of college -- very few places take undergrads (off the top of my head, BX and Audax do). Best bet is to do 1-4 years of IB or consulting at M/B/B.

Most people do investment banking for the exit opportunities (private equity, hedge funds, etc.) Getting a job at a PE firm straight out of undergrad is difficult. Your best bet is to do ibanking for a number of years and jump ship to PE.

any schools in cali that would give me an edge as to getting a private equity job? maybe claremont mckenna or usc because of alumni network? ive heard alumni help a lot in getting a job at PE firms

Will getting a PhD in engineering/physics helps getting a job in hedge funds?

This thread is about Private Equity. Go away.
