@gearmom yes, I looked at it. Neither FSU or UF are listed. But she is very interested in a study abroad program.
@mamag2855 Did your D graduate in 2016 or is she still there? We looked at Drexel this past summer and she loved it. She liked the city and the Co-op program. Does she still want to go into Fashion?
@lisaol Per #18. I glad you are in a better financial situation. If she could whiz through a Florida school for free in two years and then take an elite option for grad with travel. she would get far more mileage, far more bang for the buck.
Be careful if she (or the younger kids) perceives it to be unfair, as it can be damaging to family relations. Prepare your diplomatic skills for this possibility.
@lisaol My D graduated from HS in 2016 and decided to attend Temple U as a Marketing major, absolutely loves it, had a great freshman year and is a sophomore there this year.
She is still interested in fashion and she is hoping to get an internship in fashion retail next summer, and she has also added a minor in Art. She feels that the Marketing major was a good choice and will give her a broader range of career opportunities.
Of the colleges where D applied for the Fashion Merchandising major, she really loved the programs at Drexel U in Philly and VCU in Richmond, VA the most, both have excellent FM programs. Unfortunately, both Us were out of our price range in the end, and she decided that she loved Temple U and would major in Marketing.
Drexel’s coop programs are great, we have family friends attending for engineering and they have had great coop opportunities. I believe that the Fashion Merchandizing program allowed for 1 coop/ 4 years, but they did not have a 3 coop/5 year option for that major. Drexel is very expensive. If your D loved Drexel, I highly recommend checking out Virginia Commonwealth U’s FM program. It is part of their highly ranked Art School and D liked it even more rhan Drexel’s program, and it is much less expensive. Your D would likely be offered decent merit aid with her stats.
I have 2 older Ds who attend(ed) the University of Richmond and it is a great city to live in, lots going on, awesome restaurants, parks, outdoor activities, vibrant art scene and museums. VCU also has an excellent honors program.

“Rowan U in NJ, an up and coming regional public, they have invested heavily in growing their business and engineering programs in the last several years. They have a 3 year Marketing degree, very attractive. Offered my D $15k/yr merit, a nice discount.”
FYI - my daughter is there for her 2nd year of school but as a junior. She is in the degree in 3 Marketing program, and will graduate in 2019,in the first class of degree in 3 years program. What has helped her significantly is her AP credit use to satisfy entry level required coursework and free up her schedule. She loves Rowan, is doing well, has a job in marketing on campus and will be looking to intern next summer.
Figured that might be of interest to you Glad your daughter is happy at Temple!
I’d think that a straight marketing degree would be preferable to a specialized FM degree because you are not boxing yourself in. More flexibility in the job market.
If your D has a lot of AP credits , she may be able to complete double majors of Marketing and Fashion Merchandising, because most programs have overlap. I remember that was fairly easy to pull off at the University of Alabama, a good option for a high stats student, with excellent programs and a gorgeous campus.
My daughter started as a fashion merchandising major at U of Delaware. After one year she decided to change majors (and schools). It was an expensive lesson to learn paying out of state tuition for a year.
My daughter’s plan at the time was to go to a school that had a joint program with FIT in NY. She really only considered U of Delaware and SUNY Oneonta (we live in NY). I was content because I wanted her to get a 4-year degree. Both schools had a program with FIT where you’d go there for a year. We opted for Delaware because we thought it was a better school and that she’d have better options (inside or outside of fashion). In retrospect, Delaware didn’t work out for many reasons.
I was never a fan of picking a school for a specific major. I would see if there is an option to go to school in Florida and maybe do a semester or year in FIT.
Run the net price calculator at Kent State. They give some pretty good merit and I think tuition, fees, room and board are about $28,000. They have study abroad in Florence.
