<p>In my experience most of the private scholarships have at least a component of need. Google for scholarships and drill down to the criteria. Go first with your local scholarships, which you find out about from your counselor and by googling local banks, organizations, companies, etc. Good luck.</p>
<p>Yes, there are many. Private scholarships can be open to students nationally, in your state, or in your local area. They can come from corporations or non-profit foundations.</p>
<p>Examples of national scholarships: Best Buy, Walmart, Sallie Mae, Burger King, Hispanic Scholarship Fund. Examples of California scholarships (in case you're in CA): California Masonic Center, PG&E, Christermon Foundation. Examples of local scholarships: varies a lot with the area, but often there is a Rotary Club. If your high school doesn't have a list of local/regional scholarships, check the web sites of neighboring high schools :).</p>
