It depends on the public school. I could give you some public schools in NJ, Ll and CT that would be viewed higher than many private schools.
Compared to the average high school, a B average at private school might be viewed better if the course load was heavy.
I wouldn’t rely on your school’s name to carry much weight at really selective schools because they get plenty of applications from these schools to begin with.
Is your school a feeder for a group of schools? Sometimes school relationships can help.
Agreed, it depends on the two schools compared. I wouldn’t focus on that. Instead work with your guidance counselor at your private school to come up with a good list of schools to apply to based on your HS’s history of where students with your stats get admitted.
What are you comparing? Trinity and Stuy? Or the Dalton School and Clara Barton Hight School?
