Which private schools offer the most need based financial aid.

Yale…

I read somewhere recently that Conn. College is fairly generous with FA, but have no idea if it’s true.

Financial aid is sometimes based on stats, too. Some schools will be more generous to a student who has high stats than they will be to a student with average stats.

Do you know how much aid you’d qualify for? A generous school won’t be generous to someone who they believe can afford to pay for most or all of the cost.

Why are you limiting choices to a small state? What are the child’s stats? What is your EFC (keep in mind that many privates also use CSS Profile which can require more info - such as home equity and non-custodial parent info)

Yale guarantees to meet full need…no merit aid…not stat dependent except to get accepted. Conn College, I believe, also meets full need but I wouldn’t want to wager money on that. Yale’s financial aid (need based only…Conns are need based only as well) are very generous, even for higher income workers.

Getting accepted to Yale is the challenge…acceptances hover around 10% of those who apply

That question can be answered in many different ways. To get a true direct answer, you need to take the number of students in each CT private school, get the % of those on need based aid, multiply and compare. Schools like Bridgeport, SE Ct, U of Hartford would be in the running.

Now if you are looking for the school that gives more students 100% of their need as defined by their app process from their own funds, my guess would be Yale. Also Coast Guard Academy has full awards as all service academies do, but that is all govt money.

OOps sorry guys I am new at this. I should have been more specific. Private boarding/day schools need-blind for like grades 6-12 in CT. thanks

Dolores,
You would get more information if you post this in the boarding school pages. From my experience there are NO need blind private/prep schools in Connecticut. I may be wrong since my kids didn’t look at all of them! Generally - I think Exeter and Roxbury Latin are the only truly need blind schools left - although a number of them are trying to become need blind the economy has postponed some of those plans. Good luck!

I don’t think there are any need blind private/prep schools in CT. I know that Choate Rosemary Hall is not. There are very few, if any schools that can be need blind AND meet that need. You would have to look at schools that do not charge tuition like Regis in NYC, which is not a boarding school, but is a private school with a endowment that makes it tuition free.
