Private Schools?

I am a rising Senior from California, I am pretty much locked at what UC's I am going for. Now I am thinking about some Privates outside of CA. The only private that I am going to apply in CA is USC. I would like to major in Engineering.

So, can you guys name some decent private schools. Not schools like Cal-Tech and MIT. More like Purdue, USC and Virginia Tech.

Carnegie Mellon, Bucknell, Villanova

Just an FYI: Purdue and Virginia Tech aren’t privates…if that matters to you… but both offer fantastic engineering programs.

For privates, I suggest looking at Rice and Northwestern.

^Yeah I know. I just put those out there for the level of schools to recommend. Isn’t Northwestern very prestigious?

Thanks for all the suggestions so far, keep them coming!

Rensellaer, Rochester

Thank You! I would like some in Boston as well if possible. Not to prestigious though! I want these privates to be Matches.

Look at Case Western.

Boston University has a decent engineering program.

Could be a match for you - their acceptance rate exceeds 50%.

^ Northeastern does too.

I know people who go to Illinois Institute of Technology and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology for engineering and really enjoy it.

Any Others?

Worcester Poly Tech.

Alright, thank you for all the suggestions! I think I have enough, unless there are more. You guys gave me a good range of schools.

Now I have a question, would it be better to go far a Out of State Public school like a Purdue (my top choice if I went this way) or Virginia Tech, or go to a Private college like the ones you guys listed above?
