has anyone read these books?
I was wondering if it was based on any specific boarding school. To me it sounding very similar to Groton but I dont really know.
Any ideas?

I LOVE those books!! I read them before I had even been considering boarding school! They sound VERY unrealistic to me. But they’re great books!

I have read them. I hope no boarding schools are like that. If you have got to at least the 3rd book then you know that it’s not exactly good.
Has anyone heard of Prep? I want to read that book.

I’ve read Prep and it was based on Groton mostly because the author went there. It was an okay book, but almost uncomfortable to read because the main character is SO self-concious and introverted. She is also fairly whiney because she complains about not being popular, yet avoids interaction with other people as much as possible. Good read but not really accurate or insightful.

has anyone read perfectly prep? It was written by a teacher at a prestigious boarding school. I am interested in reading about it.

yeah i agree with LOLZbabe…she like made boarding school seem bad…but the girl who was on the book went like in the 80’s or something…but she was really afraid to try new things out…she seemed narrow minded

and UF:i cant find that post where i said to leave that kid alone…but i was directing that comment to the person in front of you…sorry that i didn’t say who i was implying it too

I read Prep. I hope that my boarding experience isn’t going to be like that.

i read it, it was okay but a little dated because its set in the early 80s. i think the upper-class series are better, if you want an accurate view of BS life today. they are written by 3 hotchkiss grads and they actually use real school names, and bs events like gold and silver ball. i think it represents a much more accurate view of BS life than prep or at least for this time period. there is rampant drug-use throughout the novel, but most people would be surprised at how much drug use there actually is, and most commonly dip. it also addresses how schools value athletics, new vs. old money, east coast vs. west coast, racial tension and other issues at boarding school

do you really think that the upper class is true? With the new vs. old money?

yes completely it also depends where the money comes from. also i liked how they wrote about gold and silver, because all the kids come to nyc from BS and go nuts cause they can’t do anything at BS. gold and silver was the best and worst night in my life. thats all ill say ahaha

are you sure? Plenty of new money people are cool…

im not commenting on that and thats not what the vibe the book gives off it talks about the difference in values, morals, and overall out-look on life. i dont think the book dicusses new money like that it just simplely comments on how the two clash. if anything the book portrays new money in a better light than old money.

I love private! Such a good but really unrealistic series! I haven’t read prep, I should try it. Has anyone read the It Girl? Its another book based on boarding school. It’s a spin-off from Gossip Girl with Jenny. I prefer it to private because it’s more realistic.

ilovethattree:

i read the It Girl!! hahaha its just cuz i love GG…do u think thats what BS is like realistically? there r so many “prep” novels out there…

Somnusc: Yeah I read it because I loved GG too! I think BS is like that to an extent (the people seem realistic. Of course there are people like Tinsley and Carrie at BS and I am for certain that there is at least one guy at every BS that is like Heath ahaha, but I don’t think schools have underground secret tunnels and stuff like that ahaha. There IS heaps of BS novels out these days…

brooks has underground tunnels

really? ahaha I had no idea things like that even existed!

Emma Willard has tunnels, too. They’re not secret, though. I went to a summer camp there once and they said that they’re great during the winter since you don’t have to go outside to walk to class.

would u guys recommend reading prep? the reviews on some sites have very different opinions

I would reccomend it if you have nothing else to read. It is a good book, but the main character is always depressed, and it can get a little annoying after a while…
