Private Student Loan

Do you guys know any private student loan that will send the check directly to me or not directly but on time? I am a transfer student who wants to start a summer semester at ucb early rather than fall. However, there is a high chance for me not to get any financial aid during the time. Therefore, I am looking to take out some loans, but most of them send the check to the school and let the school disburses it to me. I am afraid that doing it this way won't let me pay my tuition/ room on time.

Talk to the financial aid office. Typically, when we know that a student is approved for a private loan that is going to be disbursed to the school, we will work with that student while we await the receipt of the funds from the lender. We do this because those types of loans must be "approved" by the school and the school sets the disbursement date...so we are just as certain of the funds as we would be for other types of aid. If the funds are disbursed directly to the student, my institution typically classifies the student as a cash student...and the necessary tuition/fee payments are due on time...or they pay the consequences (such as late fees)...this is because we have no way to guarantee that the student will even send the funds to the school once they receive the check.

If you speak with the FA counselors, they can tell you how it is handled at your school and give you advice on which type of private loan to take so you will be able to start your summer courses on time without any penalties.

hmmm thanx so much that really helps. i have sent an email to my finaid advisor and im just waiting for her to reply

do you think i will have enough time from now till like june 10 to get everything paid and ready?

If you take care of it pretty soon, yes. When my students have to take private loans, they can typically get a response within a few minutes. They then have some forms to submit to the lender, but I've seen it turned around (from initial application to money in schools hand) in as little as 1 week. Just be sure to keep the financial aid office updated. IE...your online application is approved, fax them a copy of the approval. The more up-to-date you keep the FA Office, the more willing they are to work with you. Just be sure to stay on top of your lender once you have the approval.

I have been conditionally accepted to the one that does not need school certification... they are sending me a confirmation packet and I don't know whats gonna be in it. Can you elaborate more on how I should keep up to date with the FA office, because as of right now, the department that takes care of the summer session FA cannot is hard to be reached. Do you have some suggestions on what I should do to have this loan go through? and is it possible for the loan not to go through because the school wont certify it?
What kinda of advice should i seek from the FA office?

and thanks so much you are truly helpful

Since the loan you are in application with doesn't require school certification, I don't know how helpful the FA Office will be should it take a while ot get the funds. Best advice would be to just call the FA Office and let them know what lender you are working with and what suggestions they have for handling your summer tuition. As far as helping ht eloan to go through, your credit is going to be the deciding factor.

they are so not helpful cause i called they dont have a direct number that I can call for summer Financial aid... apparently the person who is handling summer aid is different from the one who takes care of regular season financial aid...=__=
