I was wondering exactly how difficult it is to transfer from a private university to a UC as a sophomore transfer. I heard that priority is given to CC/current UC/CSU students before private school students. So is it almost impossible to transfer from a private institution to a UC? What about transferring as a junior?

You can't transfer to a UC as a sophomore, only as a junior. The priority goes from CCC>UC>CSU, but I am not really sure how hard it is to transfer from a private institution.

I thought some UCs allowed sophomore transfers, one of them being UCI. I'm unsure though.

no UC's accept sophomore transfers...

I guess there may be exceptions, but for the most part, you need 60semester or 90 quarter units to be able to transfer

Anecdotally, I know of several transfers into a UC from out-of-state schools (private). The students were California residents but had gone to private oos schools. This was a few years ago. They were junior transfers.

Some campuses do accept sophomore level students. At UC Davis, for example, we consider sophomore level applicants for select majors in the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. To be eligible as a sophomore level transfer student you must have been eligible as a freshman level applicant; this means you completed the entire exam requirements when you graduated high school. Please see http://admissions.ucdavis.edu/admissions/fr_adm_reqt.cfm for the freshman requirements. It is possible to transfer from a private school, however it is more difficult. We won’t be able to discuss you what courses will transfer nor will you know what graduation requirements any course will satisfy.
