Does anyone have any suggestions of a good private voice teacher for my daughter in the Cincinnati area. We are actually in Northern Kentucky but would be willing to travel to Cincinnati. She is currently a high school junior and a soprano. I would appreciate any names that anyone could suggest for us to set up sample lessons with and look into. We have looked at the CCM prep teachers but none have jumped out at us. I am at a loss as to where to begin. She has taken lessons for many years from a teacher but feels as if she needs more. Her current teacher focuses on piano lessons and vocal lessons for younger students. She needs someone to help her prepare for her audition next year. Thanks so much!!

My D's voice teacher received her Masters at CCM. Though she is in Cleveland she may know of some people there. I'll check with her.

Thanks that would be great!!

Does she know of singers ahead of her in school who have "gone on" with their voice study? Does she know or has she heard any singers in the region? She can also check the NATS web site to look for teachers who might be available for private lessons. NATS teachers tend to be extra conscientious, and well trained. Another possibility is to make contact with one of the major teachers at CCM and ask if they would consider mentoring your daughter through one of their more mature, experienced grad students. Good luck. Lorelei

Did you think to contact CCM and see if any of the voice professors give private lessons? If they do, this may give you an "In" for Cincinnati.

You might give Anne Moss a call. She is located near the U. of Cincinnati and has a lot of experience getting students ready for college auditions. Her studio is called the Music House - not to be confused with the music store of the same name in N. KY. Anne was my D's first voice teacher. She's a very dynamic individual. You might also call the Musical Arts Center. It's located on Madison Road in Cinci. The studio was started by a voice teacher and, though they offer instruction in many areas, their specialty is voice lessons. Another excellent teacher is Alison Acord, who is located in Northside. She was a voice faculty member at CCM, but I do not believe she is teaching with them any longer. Alison may be willing to take on a talented H.S. student.

Sometimes voice faculty at CCM will give private lessons to H.S. students. Some faculty offer lessons through the prep department and others teach on their own. They will generally require an audition. I would talk to the prep dept. director about studying with a faculty member if you are interested.

I have friends whose children and/or grandchildren have had great success with instruction from Kirk Arnold. He is in No Ky, check out his website @ www.kirkarnoldstudios.com
Good Luck !!

I have my bachelors in music from Ball State University and took voice lessons from Anne Moss (Music House) for 3+ years primarily to get ready for my college auditions. As soon as we starting working together I began to improve. She was recommended to me by my (then) high school choir director who indicated that her technique and personality would be a good fit for my learning style. She is an enthusiastic, warm and loving person that finds many ways to get her point across. I only wish I would have had her throughout college…I ended up in a studio with a professor who was depressing and had a breathing technique opposite mine that I did not understand. However when I came home for the summers I began to progress thanks to Anne.

Another excellant voice coach in Cincinnati is Paul McCready. He has taught many of my friends. They include students who received their bachelors/masters in music from places like Ohio State, Ohio University, Carnegie Mellon, and Northwestern University. I’m not sure where he is located anymore (I know he has moved since I have been to his facilities last), but he has a website online. His studios are called CMA (Cincinnati Music Association).

Hope that helps!!
