If one is looking to attend on Merit scholarship, then the stats need to be higher. It is relatively easy to bring the ACT score up by preparing for one subject - math. The advanced math HS students actually have disadvantage in math as the ACT math questions based primarily on the middle school material. There are few questions from HS, but not that many. Just take practice math section and go over every single mistake and it will re-fresh the “old” for you math material. The rest of the ACT should not be a problem for somebody with the GPA over 3.0.
DS was so very close to qualifying for UA’s Presidential Scholarship w/ his SAT score. Due to suggestions here, I had him take the ACT… However, I bought an ACT prep book and made him spend that week going over the sections. He did no prep w/ the SAT. It paid off, as he scored high enough to easily qualify for full tuition.
If finances are tight, retesting can make a huge difference.
