Private vs. Public in Terms of Real Cost

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if somebody could give me advice on this issue. I'm interested in public interest law, and if I can get into a school with guaranteed loan forgiveness (which I understand roughly coincides with the top schools), that's where I will almost certainly go. However, if I don't get into a school with loan forgiveness, then minimizing my debt will be my first priority.

I know that a lot of the public law schools are cheaper to begin with, and that they typically permit one to declare in-state residency after a year. However, what I don't know is what scholarships tend to be like from less prestigious private law schools. Do any of the private schools tend to give very large scholarships? If so, which ones? Do these scholarships tend to be large enough to make the total price of the private school equivalent to the price of a public school?

Thanks!!
