I know that cadets nearing graduation can be chosen to have corrective surgery for eyesight. Does anyone know the criteria for this surgery? Would every cadet who is otherwise PQ be allowed to do this? (sounds too good to be true…)
Anyone know any statistics or stories about this?

I got onto the old College Confidential site and spent a while reading the long posts with docfrance about the previous years.

In one of the posts was a short section that was really interesting and applied to me. One year the performed PRK on 75 cadets with non pilot qualifying vision and were allowed to then enter pilot training.

I foudn that very interesting

snipper's got it about right. Cadets have to apply and a limited number are selected based upon a variety of factors that I don't know exactly. They're chosen during their junior (2-degree) year and then evaluated for PQ when they are seniors.
