pro & cons of EA vs RD

I don't know much about Early Action and the positives and negatives of it vs Regular Decision so any advice would be helpful.

Thanks

earlier results?

isn't EA generally more competitive so a lower chance is getting in?

For most schools, EA acceptance rates, as opposed to ED, are within 1 or 2 percentage points of RD rates, so the difference isn't really very significant. The only real benefit to EA is that if you get accepted, you get to avoid the stress of applying to a bunch of other schools later on in the year, so it's mostly for peace of mind.

Alright. And are there more scholarship and other merit based aid opportunities for getting in early?

typically not

okay.thanks.

Depending on the school, merit aid/scholarships are only issued with early action. Make sure you check each school thoroughly.

ill be sure to double check

The only real difference with EA, as far as I know, is piece of mind. The acceptance rates tend to be similar and you aren't bound to a school (for some a disadvantage). And of course you have to get your paperwork together in time to meet the earlier deadline...

well for schools like Notre Dame EA is for the more competitive applicants who are very confident in their stats. unlike most EA programs Notre Dame does not automatically defer a non-admit application to RD and withholds the right to throw out any application they wish

So far I know that loyola defers you to RD if you get rejected from EA
