Probability Of Harvard

NOTE: ALL THINGS I THINK WILL STAND OUT ON MY APP ARE HIGHLIGHTED IN BOLD!

Courses: Most rigorous possible my school offers:

AP BIOLOGY & BIOLOGY LAB, AP EUROPEAN HISTORY, AP CALCULUS BC, AP
PHYSICS C, AP HUMAN GEOGRAPHY, AP GOVERNMENT, AP U.S. HISTORY, AP
ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE

The only AP class I didn't take that my High School offered was AP
CHEMISTRY, and this was because I decided to take political science
instead. I've taken every honors class that my High School offers also.

My Junior year I matriculated into the **Oklahoma School of Science
and Mathematics Regional Center/b

**Volunteered HEAVILY for a local resident's bid for Congress /b. Campaign included
door-to-door confrontation, sign postings, and any other general voter
aid. Campaign work was also done on the side for Local Senator Patrick
Anderson, and Federal Senator Tom Coburn (all candidates of these
Conservative candidates were elected). I learned SO MUCH about
politics during this time and gained a lot of faith in my community's
ability to vote for the right people.

**Started the "Citizens for Enid Tax Payers" PAC which is fighting
Washington D.C. union interests from barging its way into our city
government/b. We have gotten editorials in our city newspaper, spoken
at City Council meetings, and even campaigned for our officials in
local rallies. This is a touchy issue and unfortunetly at the heart
of it are our hard-working city employees. We will fight, however,
against a union from ever harming our local representation and need
for efficient management of City Services.

Vice-Chairmen of the Oklahoma State Republican Convention. I
also helped organize this event before its inception by writing its
constitution and inviting other Oklahoma District high schools attend.

Elected Mayor at Oklahoma City Boys' State

Have worked with a very good friend's Eagle Scout Project to help
restore a local park. Workincluded the complete re-painting of
playground and furniture equipment as well as tree-planting.

Lift weights 4 times a week at local YMCA This is actually a pretty
big deal to me since I've never participated in any sports and am very
scrawny.

Worked 20 hours a week at Jumbos Supermarket during Sophomore summer.

Interned off-and-on at local Law Office during Junior Summer

Have researched and adopted "Value Investment" skills to invest all of
my earned savings in the stock market. Am planning on starting Enid
High's first Investment Club to help educate to others the wonders of
compound interest =P

FAILED E.C.'S --

** High School Debate Team E.C. ** -- Our school only goes to
three tournaments a year (two during Junior year) and I was a finalist
only at the novice level. However, after the competition got ahead of
me I never really did so well. I spent 20+ hours a week researching
for the topics during my junior year (buying as much resource material
as I could afford), but since never got to debate anyone for practice
until the actual contest took place, I never placed above 8th in
Varsity Debate. I feel dissapointed I didn't do so well for the work
I put into it, but only my results matter so I suppose Harvard will
never know.

Class-Officer Presidential Nominee in 10th grade, Vice-Presidential
Nominee in 11th Grade(
My sophomore year I lost horribly, but my
junior year I actually went around and met as many people as I could
by shaking their hands, introducing myself, and telling them how I
planned to govern if I was to be elected. I also spent loads of time
(and ink) on "funny posters"/campaign material and came EXTREMELY
close to winning given the circumstances of my "uncoolness". Unlike
most schools, our elections have forced voting so you can't
just get all of your friends to vote you in office (everyone has to
like you). Rumour has it that I came within 10 votes of winning, and
this experience truly changed the way I viewed politics for the
better.

I have no legacy and am a white male. For Harvard, would I have above
average chances of being accepted under-grad?

I would like to think my extra-curricular acitivities stand out among
those of other applicants because most "political students" fight for
liberal causes (academic culture is predominatly liberal, so Harvard
needs Conservative balance). I am EXTREMELY passionate about what I
believe to be an ongoing fight to preserve our Constitution and its
principles: a limited government that exists to protect our individual
rights, entrust the American People, and provides us a fair and free
market place for maximum social mobility. I am most similar to Ronald
Reagan in my political views. I know most people on this board might
disagree with me, as well as 90% of Harvard, but will this College
accept me for who I am and the diverse discourse I would add to their
campus?

No offense that that is such a long resume.

You look decent. Strong grades, not shabby test scores. You'll need the SAT II. I hope your doing that soon ...

your EC's look decent. although there are too many for me to comprehend.

like for everyone- write great essays, and you'll have a chance.

Above average chances? Could you go a bit more in depth than what is written above? Thanks.

Apply to Princeton or somewhere more conservative, you seem too Republican to fit in Boston.

haha. stop trying to send compedition to another school lol.

What republican? What democrats? What greens? haha. you'd fit in anywhere and who said Princeton was more Republican? lol

GeorgeS,

You are qualified, but i believe i have read admission books that say around 87% of applicants to Harvard are "qualified". What do you really want someone to say, that you WILL get in? As qualified as you are no one could possibly estimate your chances, i'm sure you understand this. Just apply and hope for the best.

I'm going to say about 10-15%, but that is the highest anyone's chance would be. Plus, I'm not trying to be rude, but why does everyone think they will be the exception, like the admissions will truely look into their soul and consider them a good person???

Just because you follow your passions outside of school, and have held leadership positions in following those passions, I'm going to say you have slightly above average chances. (I say slightly loosely, after looking at that stat that says 87% of applicants are "qualified").
FYI, Harvard SCEA has a 23% acceptance, 5% rejection, and rest deffered rates.
I say go for it.

Where are your SAT II scores?

You cant be serious.....

you have a chance of 1 in 85! (imaginary)

Probability is never a good word when in the same sentence as Harvard. Your stae gives you a slight boost, your grades are good and ECs average for Harvard, lowish SAT, so I'd guess your chance is higher than the average 10%, so maybe 15=20%.

a part of me wishes i was this qualified for ivies, but a big part doesn't. alien_workshops comment says it all. but best of luck with harvard and the other schools you choose to apply to. i'm sure you'll be successful no matter where you go.

everyone campaigns for a politician and starts their own club

Wow... You're EC's are kinda weird... This is going to sounds strange, but all of them shout "nerd."

Politics is your hobby? You're 15, not 50.

High school republicans: its sad to see them so cynical at such a young age

Princeton republican?! Don't think so.

DO NOT PUT THIS ON YOUR APP.

And if you are very scrawny, and you are lifting weights 4 times a week, then you need to learn what it feels like to actually lift weights.

Speaking of things not to put on your app, don't put your SAT score either. And I mean like don't ask CB to send it either. I heard Harvard accepted this kid because he said he was above standardized testing. You should totally try it!@$!!#@!$

LOL xD
lets be nice now. you never know, he/she might just make it
