It's tough to judge not knowing about your "living conditions" and more about who you are. Purely based on stats, you're sort of on the edge. Your GPA is a bit low, but fortunately, if you are a junior you have time to raise your GPA a bit. I also suggest picking an EC that you really, really focus on and trying to develop it rather than hopping around anymore. Lastly, and I always say it because it is so important, when you do apply, show as much enthusiasm for UChicago as possible and get in touch with your adcom to let him or her know you're sincere.

You're probably one of those people whose essays will make or break you. If you write a creative essay that truly reflects who you are, and provide a good response to the "why Chicago?" question, you stand a good chance. If you write the generic stuff that most people do for essays it will be very tough for you to get in.

There is a thread here where EA people posted their stats, you can check it, but everyone had higher stats than yours. Maybe you have a change RD. Perhaps you have an angle--what is the community service in? What is difficult living cond? It is good that you are taking hardest classes. Overall her college advisor said to try very hard to keep GPA at 3.75 uw for competitive schools.

My GPA is only a 3.7 and it would be around a 3.5 if you took out all of my automatic As in orchestra, and I got in. Don't despair, ye of imperfect grades. hehe
