Hi, i am a junior and i was wondering what are my chances for being admitted to Duke University.
Stats:
Ethnicity: Black
Rank: 16/526
SAT: 790 CR 650 M 630 W (2070)
GPA: 3.86 UW 5.49 W
ECs: Football (2 years then broke my wrist), Track (1 year), Captain Debate, Quantum Mechanics research (every summer since 7th grade), Trumpet, Mu Alpha theta, Science Honor Society, English Honor Society (treasurer)
Could you tell me the probablity of acceptance?
And another question would taking the ACT be better, my SAT is the weakest part of my application, i got a 29 on the practice one, but i think with studying I could get a 32, would that help? Any comments welcome thanks :)!

Oh and i took 11 APs, if it helps.

Well, you definitely have a shot. I have a hard time telling someone whether they will get in or not, as there are loads more factors that determine if you are admitted than just your test scores and ECs.

Your ECs look fine, but I’d just recommend taking something that stands out more - enter some science competition or join a new club. Also, your test scores could be bumped up a little (though I was admitted with only a 2000 SAT and 33 ACT), but I’ve seen 2200+ scorers rejected.

Improve everything slightly and I’d say you had a good shot - but predictions are still hopeless.

With what you’ve given, accepted

writing doesn’t matter as much… so ur SAT score is solid… if you can’t get a 32 ACT score, submit your SAT… it’s good

affirmative action will help… you’d have a shot even without that in your favor… regardless, i’d be shocked if u don’t get accepted granted you have good essays and recommendations…

I do have science awards, but they are only regional. I have already written my essays and i think they are pretty beast.

look forward to seeing you in '09 (hopefully)

probability of 1

Probability of 1 based on what range? Because in terms of experiment based data, taking a analogy 1 or 0, then that would correspond to one hundred percent. However from a experiment array that would require a probability given in terms of a fraction of which one would also be 100% so I guess. Thanks???

Why do you talk like that

yea, really.. why? haha

84.2% (+/- 3%)

Well i thought that he was being sarcastic so i wanted to endulge the sarcasm. :)

i was being serious.

URM with those grades/stats means admittance.

I was thinking applying ED, but would i be able to get in RD? (Then i could compare financial aid and i have four brothers so i really need to do this)

apply RD, you’ll stand a good chance.

if money is an issue always apply RD

Thanks i think i will :)!
