For those of you who applied ED, what's your school's grading system like? My friend just put this idea into my head that people who were deferred even though they had amazing grades might have been deferred because of easier grading system. For example, my cousin gets straight A's but for her school an A starts at a 90, a B at an 80, and so on. My school's different. A = 93, B = 85, C = 76. What do you guys think? I thought it was weird at first, but he made a good point.

umm idk..we dont have letter grades...our grades are numerical but I think that for our school A- is 90-92 A 93-96 A+ 97+ or something like that..i derno

Our high school just did GPA in percentages. AP classes were weighted by 1.05.

that is kind of a rediculous statement. is he/she suggesting that everyone go to a school that has a 93 for an A grading system or else their A's are of no credibility? furthermore, grades arent the only factor, unfortunately for him/her...it is just the excuse for not getting in i guess. or maybe this person didnt take rigorous classes and got A's, which shows the admission officers just about nothing

We don't do letter grades, we just give straight numbers. I'm not sure if we weight either, but I've never seen what my grade's like weighted if they do so.

i concur this is the dumbest conclusion ever, probably the reasoninng u used to come up with this, is the reason why u were deferred

hi i'm back from being temporarily banned... Do you guys think that unweighted rank is taken into consideration? My school has a very mixed academic student body, and my unweighted rank is like 30th percent, my weighted rank is ~8-9%

When the school sends the school report it says on the report what the school considers an A, etc. I think it also says in the profile what classes are available, how rank is calculated, and how much the courses are weighted.

yeah our AP/Honors classes are worth 10% more (1.10)

to get an A in my school you need a 95%, 92-94 is an A-

Consider that teachers may make it more difficult to get a 90 in your cousin's school than a 90 in your school because they know where the cutoff for an A is. I'd say, most likely, a 90 in their school is equally difficult to acheive as a 93 in your school (all other things being equal i.e. overall school competitiveness).
