Probably and Interesting Question for Transfer People

Just wondering... Does anyone know whether or not it matters if we decide to omit classes (meaning that you'd be leaving out all of the information, all of it) taken at another institution?

For example...
(As a background to the stats)
I went to a four year college somewhere OOS. Did miserably. Mostly because of how dreary the place was or was it... hormones? First year I think I genuinely tried at the outset but ran out of steam and just showed up for tests. Second year I genuinely tried and did great right up until the finals which is where I starting skipping classes so I could sleep in with my ex-love.

I don't think I'm smart with my choices but I'm generally a pretty sharp guy... Sadly though however sharp I may be none of that shows when my GPA at this four year college is a miserable 1.2? I was in pre-med and I didn't totally get kicked out because I was lucky enough to be good friends with one of my professors but still got that academic suspension.

This suspension was for Spring of 09 and since then I've been taking community college courses which is a breeze compared to the pre-med stuff but that's probably just because I've had the mind to concentrate only on school and work my way through it all... Also helps that I'm back HOME which is what I like, also helps that I don't plan to get engaged ever again... till I finish college.

Long story short... Here's the stats but I don't want to be too specific cause my sister snoops around here and she'd go nuts if she found out ;) what I'd been doing.

A Good 4 Year Public College Known for their Med-Bio-Science Program.
Engineering, English Lit Major... Math Minor
Fall 07, Spring 08, Fall 08
GPA 1.2... includes the classes I retook and did just as bad in...
In Fall 08 I stopped the Pre-Med/Bio and switch Econ with English and Math Minor.

Summer 08
Took 2 Intro Econ Classes at Univ. Maryland-Baltimore Co... 6 Credits.
GPA 4.0

Spring 09, Summer 09
Took a few classes I haven't taken yet that fits into my Gen Eds at a Howard Community College... 21 Credits.
GPA 4.0

I don't think my Fresh/Soph years as a Pre-Med at the unnamed 4-Yr School will help my chances into Univ. Maryland-College Park. I'm in-state and my biggest problem is money. I would be fine staying at a CC except for the fact that I can probably do better but anyway here's the big Q.

Q: Do I have to (by law) submit all of my college transcripts when I apply as a transfer student? Would UMCP be able to check to see all the schools I've attended somehow even if they just thought I went to Howard CC and UMBC? If I don't and they find out would that count against me?

**** When I was admitted into the 4-Yr School I did not send my CC transcripts from when I was doing parallel enrollment during HS. (I just forgot...) And there wasn't any problems the school had no school until I mentioned it to one of my advisers one day. Would it be the same way with UMCP in that they won't find out if I don't tell them?
It will probably hurt my chances if they do, or maybe they'll just tell me to send the transcripts but anyway... What's your thoughts?

I did some research on it but all I could find at the UMCP website was a line saying I have to send all transcripts from wherever I attended but... yeah.

J.

You’re ethically responsible for providing all the transcripts to every school you’ve attended when you transfer. You may even be legally required (I would imagine so…)

Long story short, don’t even think about it. If you are found out, and you would automatically be if you’ve ever received a cent of financial aid including a loan, your acceptance would be revoked and any degree would be taken away if discovered later.

Most state schools have ‘foregiveness’ programs, much better idea to look into that.

This question is asked so often that we really need a bold-faced sticky thread that says:

JUST SEND THE DAMN TRANSCRIPTS!

If you don’t get into UM-CP immediately, you can finish an A.A. at your community college and then transfer. Choose a major that offers a guaranteed transfer into UM-CP or another university.

Good luck!

Two reasons to send all of your transcripts:

1) Honesty

2) [url=http://www.studentclearinghouse.org/]National Student Clearinghouse: Degree verification & enrollment verification/url

Honestly if you took like one class 4 years ago and never went, or if you went to an obscure 6 month trade school with no transferable courses to any school I would say just dont mention that stuff. But you went to a major school for 3 semesters. There is no way you can omit that much information. Although, lets be realistic…with the nation in financial turmoil I doubt any school is gonna pay the money to go digging up some random guys record and take away his degree you know what I mean? Infact this is why schools dont do background checks for everyone, simply because anything that involves digging up for information cost MONEY $$$$$$$ money that schools dont have to waste right now in this economic climate. If you get in trouble or on academic probation they WILL find out. If you lay low and perform very well they will never notice. Although I never condone of being dishonest, sometimes a person just needs a leg up in a world that has been cruel to the struggling middle class american and very kind to the political leaders in the world who HIDE everything and the kitchen sink yet still make money on the dime of taxpayers.

Ya know… I know about 5 students who omitted their transcripts from a previous institution and they transferred with no problems. But I know you must submit every transcript, but I really don’t know how often people are caught.

It’s a cowardly thing to do. People are caught all the time and, as a final result, rescinded their offer of admission.

Regardless, people will never stop asking about this.
