I recently got 6 months probation, not academic(got arrested had to stay in jail until I went to court), for stupid immature actions and I was wondering what that means for me. If I were caught drinking underage would I get [profanity removed] and things along that line.

Isn't part of probation not committing any other crimes or else? I'm pretty sure everything's covered under that...so if you're drinking underage, you're violating your probation and if caught...yeah depends.

I dunno. Probation stuff isn't exactly on the top of my list of fn things to learn about, but that's what seems right.

If you're underage, you're still very, very young in this world. This is the time in life to be making these kinds of mistakes. Learn from it, keep your nose clean from hereon in, and you'll be fine.

Keep quiet about it around school, too. Anybody who doesn't need to know, doesn't need to know.

So I assume I shouldn't drink for the first six months of my college career? Cause I certainly don't want a misdemeanor following me around

I wouldn't even think about drinking if I were you.

I didn't murder someone, I was only in jail for 20 hours. I doubt they will give me drug tests.

i've had friends on probation, that's usually standard. but maybe since it wasn't a drug thing you'll be fine. drug tests aren't for serious crime, they do them for a ton of reasons. but if they've yet to tell you, it could be random.

drinking won't show up, cannabis will show, depending on usage, for over 3 weeks after your last toke.

probation generally means that if you get into trouble no matter how small, the consequences will be severe since you are in probationary state.

"I didn't murder someone, I was only in jail for 20 hours. I doubt they will give me drug tests."

No, they probably won't. But would it kill you to not break the law for the six months that you are on probation?

Uhh so you're saying don't drink for the first six months of my college career. It could be done but it would sure be hard

You made a mistake, you have to live with the consequences (for six months). No way around it.

DO. NOT. DRINK. You are on probation. You can survive a short while without drinking. What's worse, not drinking for six months, or the punishment of the drinking plus whatever happens since you're on probation?

This thread is hilarious.

"probation generally means that if you get into trouble no matter how small, the consequences will be severe since you are in probationary state."

No, probation merely means you cannot break a law during that time period. It seems as if you settled what ever you did, and got 6 months probation. If you were to get arrested, ticketed, etc you will NOT ONLY get in trouble for said offense, but your last offense (the plea-bargain) will also be tried as well.

You really, REALLY do not want to break this probation. It will show up for employers, and you do not want that. Even the smallest of misdemeanors will have some effect on you getting a job. Employers will amost always chose someone who does not have problems with following rules.

Oh, back to the drinking under age thing....most states are cracking down on this. If you value your drivers license and would like to not wait until you turn 21, I would advise against drinking underage.

Well no I wasn't sure what probation entailed, seeing as how this is my first arrest and first time on probation. I didn't know if probation was only serious crimes or just everything. So I was just wondering if underage drinking would show up.

I got my answer thank you. And to act like underage drinking is a huge nono on college campuses. There are only a handful of colleges where underage drinking isn't present on campus

No matter how popular drinking is, on campus or off, you've got to remember that it is against the law, and if you get caught, you will get in trouble. Probation or not.

Personally I would say that any underage drinkers are stupid no matter how smart they really are. I find it extremely disheartening that the American society has decided it's perfectly fine to break the law. No wonder we have so many problems.

Another thing...

if you get in trouble again, you may be put on Double Secret probation. Then, even the slightest thing might get you kicked out of college and put in jail.

I really do respect people who don't drink. But I hate it when they try to shove it down your throat and make everyone who does drink out to be Satan's child. When people peer pressure you into drinking a beer do you enjoy it? No so why do you lecture us about how your way is right and ours wrong.

"I find it extremely disheartening that the American society has decided it's perfectly fine to break the law."

In psychological terms, this sort of "law and order" decision calculus is incredibly unsophisticated, and I'd venture that it's also more problematic than underage drinking in moderation. Surely you can think of better reasons to avoid drinking at a young age beyond the obvious: "uhh it's illegal."
