Problem getting a W-2

In 2013 I worked for Amazon Mechanical Turk, which is a survey taking website. I made less than $87 last year, but I put that amount down when I filled out my FAFSA.

Now my school wants a W-2 form I contacted Amazon Mechanical Turk through email, because they do not have a phone number. They told me that because they were a third-party employer, they don't provide a W-2 and the IRS doesn't require them to. They directly send a form 1099-K directly to the IRS. Which they can not give to me. I contacted my school and explained the situation, they said that was fine I just needed to get a letter, on official letterhead, stating how much I made in 2013 and why the company was unable to provide me with a W-2. Amazon Mechanical Turk said they were unable to provide me with that too.

So, I went onto the IRS website to try and get a copy of my 1099-K form directly from them. But there is nothing there besides a letter of non-filling, which won't help me at all.

I don't know what to do. If I don't get my school this paper work I'll lose $8000 in scholarships. Any help on what you think my next step should be, would be very helpful.
Thanks:)

Firms do not have to send a W-2 for $87. Did they even withhold anything? Write out what you stated above, the addresses (email or other) of the company. The 1099 is for misc income, which is what this is.

How do you know what they paid you? Check? Was it a direct deposit? If so, send that paperwork (check stubs, direct deposit highlighted from your statement). The school can’t require tax paperwork that doesn’t exist and this wasn’t a ‘W-2’ job (you weren’t an employee).

A firm does not have to send a 1099-MISC for $87, but would have to send a W-2 for $87.

Agree with finding paperwork mentioned above to document earnings to the financial aid office.
