Problem. Help?

On Homecoming night, security searched my car and found marijauna. I did not admit to smoking and it was not my marijuana. The next school day, my private school decided on a one day suspension. However, I failed to mention that I smoked a bit that night. After a week or so, my school conducted its own investigation and found out that I had smoked. Instead of expulsion, they allowed me to withdraw at the end of the first quarter.

I am now homeschooled for the remainder of the first semester. I use the school's materials and will take the midterms. If I pass, I will receive credit for second quarter from my school and most likely be re-admitted back into the school.

I have a 3.8 GPA, scored 2220 on my SAT and have an impeccable record at school (not even any tardies). I applied to schools ranging from BU to Johns Hopkins, and four UC's. I'm just curious at how college admissions will view this situation and the chances of getting accepted into a private college.

I’m not quite sure you should be worrying about your colleges now.

Most applications have already been due, and honestly, you cannot turn back time and hope to fix the situation.

Instead, worry about your current grades and getting back in school, things you CAN change. You might consider trying to increase your chances of getting in by getting contacts from the colleges you’ve applied to (e-mailing professors there and getting them to put in a good word for you is a popular one among my peers).

Your record might not be the best of them all, but I expect your grades will still carry you far. From what I’ve seen, UC’s do not even check your criminal or academic record for such offenses. Some schools could easily overlook this breach with your more-than-above-average grades.

Don’t worry about it.
