I tried in vane-almost all day yesterday-to fill out and send the %Y^&^* app! The darn thing would not let me proceed. I'd fill out part of it-hit continue (or next...or whatever it said) and then after searching for several minutes...I'd get an error message "this document contains no data." So-I e-mailed them, someone got back to me today (a day late)and they offered to manually enter my answers- (she e-mailed me the questions which I answered, and e-mailed back) Nice of them-but they did not respond that they received my e-mail (though I asked them to PLEASE let me know).

Did anybody else have trouble with the housing app? Am I screwed since it came late (at least I hope they got it via e-mail)?

The housing app took maybe 20 minutes to fill out and that includes thoughtful Res. College essays.

My question to you is....why did you wait so late to fill it out?

Not to be mean or anything but, I think you deserve whatever you get for being so irresponsible. Anyway, i'm sure you'll still get housing. Keeping emailing them until they confirm reception, I guess. I wish you well.

Just goes to show you that you shouldn't be too quick too judge......

Had finals last week, I was in a car accident the day they were over and got out of the hospital yesterday. Missed my graduation.....it's been one of the worst weeks of my life. My mom's car is totaled, but as she says-at least I am not (I was driving). I didn't even say anything about it to the NU housing people...but if you want proof, i'll send you my discharge papers.

If I were so irresponsible-I doubt I would have gotten into NU in the first place.

People can be so cruel-I hope everyone else at NU is less quick to call pople names.

You getting into NU has no bearing on irresponsibility. I wasn't judging you as person, just in this instance where we knew about the housing app for several weeks. Anyway, I specifically qualified my statement; honestly, I didn't intend to be "cruel" as I had no knowledge of your current situation. Seriously though, you could have done it before finals. Don't tell me that finals stopped you from doing the app as you said the accident happened the day they were over. Maybe you should have mentioned it to them though. . .

I'm very sorry, and I hope you're well and that you continue to be well.

Lunknot-you leave me (almost) speechless. Your compassion is overwhelming. And-I can see by your judgments-that you are a perfect person that doesn't believe allowing one week to do what you describe as a 20 minute task...since, being a perfect person, you know to do it right away. I am in awe....

Primab, I'm very glad to hear that you're alright. What a disastrous week!
If they don't get back to you within a few weekdays, call. Good luck!

Primab, I hope you get your choice in spite of a rough start. I agree with cryticism that a call would be in order, but I wouldn't wait - I'd call on Monday.

I was at a meeting the other day and met yet another NU alumnus. He, like all the others I've met, was polite, encouraging, and helpful. Perhaps some of that will rub off on Lunknot in the next few years, and he or she will learn that qualifying a mean statement doesn't necessarily make it less nasty. On the contrary, it can make it seem even worse.

Nan, Crypt-
Thanks so much for your supportive and kind words. Crypt-I've been "chatting" with you since I joined CC-from the beginning of the college process, and you have been especially helpful all the way through. Nan-I am certain that the NU student body is going to be great and I look forward to meeting my new peers. It's been an emotional week-so to be lambasted yesterday was more than I could take.

I have a new found respect for cars-driving-and life. My Mom says that the accident may save my life in the future by making me a better driver. At the moment-I am happy that I will not need a car at NU (my second choice college was UCLA and I probably would have needed a car down there), and I don't think I will drive again for a long time.

As far as the housing thing-I think I will call Mon. and explain (I hate excuses which is why I didn't in the first place---and I never figured I'd have trouble with the online form). Ya just never know what can happen. Maybe I'll call my doctor and ask her to write a letter I can fax to them.

At any rate-just want to thank you...and though it will be a few days before I am totally on my feet...I appreciate the fact that things could have been worse...I am lucky.....

PRIMAB- Sorry about everything! Obviously you should call on Monday but don't worry at all about getting the dorms you want! Things like this happen all the time and I am sure the school will understand :) Also, don't worry about the accident either! Just like you said it's a lesson for the future...

Crypt- That's so cool that you're from Hawaii too! I don't know anyone else from Hawaii who's going to NU next year. Do you also live on Oahu?

CRYPTICISM: Yay! Glad to know I'm not the only person from Hawaii going to Northwestern... Unfortunately, I live on Oahu :( By the way do you by any chance know how many people from Hawaii are going to NU? I am gonna enter the school of communications... so hopefully I'll see you around or hear from you?

PRIMAB: Have you gotten through to the housing office yet? I was just curious and hope everything is okay!

Dinomite, I know of 4 other people from Oahu, one from Kauai, and one other from the Big Island. More than I expected! What dorm(s) are you hoping to get into? What's your major?

Primab, I'm also curious about how things went when you called.

They were awesome. They said they'd received part of the form from me, on the 10th ( which really surprised me because I kept getting error messages every time I tried to submit my answers). They also received e-mails from me on the 10th asking for help with the problem...I got the sense there were others with similar computer glitches (I think it was a javascript problem). So-they knew I was trying to send it.They asked me to e-mail my answers directly. They input them on the form for me and told me there would be no problem. I never even told them about my accident, et al. They were so nice-I feel so much better.

I am doing better (thanks for asking). I got a job this summer which I was supposed to start this week-they're being really nice too and I hope to work in a couple of weeks.

By the way-I Love Hawaii!!!! Been to the Big Island and Oahu and I hope to get back to both someday. Also-thanks dinomite for the nice words.

Hey Crypt! Thanks for the response and sorry for the delay... Gosh, I can't believe so many kids from Hawaii are going! Just out of curiousity how do you know all this info? Do you just happen to be friends with all of them? :) Oh yeah, do you also know what high schools they're from? As for me I am going into communication studies... for now... I think... (I actually checked it off 3 seconds before I mailed off my app b/c I didn't know what else to do) Also for my dorms I just went for basically the same dorms as everyone! At the top of my list are Willard and Allison. I was going to apply to the communications residential college but too many people have told me that too many people there are perfect. Oh yeah, do you know if the NU alumnae club of Hawaii will plan a get together for all of us students soon? I hear lots of other schools do little dinners and stuff and I was just curious if this applied to NU.
